Campanology Brewing's Barrel Aged Stout, 11.0% ABV; 3.69 overall

Pours an effervescent ebony with 2 fingers of mocha colored head. Stays effervescent throughout the pour, below average head retention & better lacing

S: Vanilla in spades, some dark fruit notes, Bourbon notes once warmed up

T: Vanila, a little Bourbon & cocoa along with dryness up front, hints of carob as well. Some roasty & smokey notes, some oaky notes, & vanilla once warmed up. Finishes with some toffee notes, oaky dryness, more vanilla & dryness

MF: Medium body, fairly firm carbonation

Drinks fairly easy, a little vanilla heavy for my liking, but outstanding value for money, think this 22 oz bottle was $ 7.00 at Trader Joes

    Cowboy coffee porter
    ...solid black appearance
...just below average carbonation with a close to average body
...aroma is fresh roasted coffee beans along with just ground beans. Malt and black coffee are in the background.
....taste is everything coffee in the most positive way.
...overall this has really perfected infusing coffee into a porter, a memorable beer[IMG]

    Hello All.
    A Ton of Honey
    [IMG]

Pours the deepest, darkest burnt walnut and is capped by a firm mocha colored head. Great head, nice retention and elegant, layered lacing.
The nose is decadent. Meaty dates, chewy figs, some seep fruity notes, and a comforting honey sweetness.
The flavor is definitely a warm, sweet and lush dessert but yet it still allows for some hints of roasted barrel and earthy notes. But the sweet notes were deep, at times blending together, while at other times separating enough to really shine solo. Dates, caramel, figs, honey, and some floral brandy notes.
Mouthfeel is slightly chewy and gently warm.

tonight my new beer is Gimme the Munichwine aged in Willet 7yr rye barrels for 10 months and 17 days. The beer is from Barreled Souls in Saco, Maine. best Bottle Society deal running IMO. The beer is 15.1% AB and is probably my last beer tonight.

    onto my review:
Pouring a 500 ml bottle at cellar temp into a snifter. Bottle is date stamped 04/17/2023. Has been in my cellar since I picked up as part of my brewery haul last year.
The beer pours a rich, dark mahogany color with a dense creamy beige head of almost 3 cm. Close to overtopping my glass.
Aroma on this beer is caramel, toffee, some werthers sweetness, a bit of bourbon and hints of fusol booze. Cant totally hide the 15% ABV.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and very fine gentle carbonation. Beer drinks surprisingly easy on the physical traits.
Flavor matches up well with the aroma, I get toffee and caramel with hints of bourbon and brown sugar , plus maybe a little raisin. Booze comes in on the swallow with some warmth and peppery bite. Warmth lingers after the swallow. Never any hops anywhere on this beer.
Im enjoying drinking this one and feel its gonna be a bit of a sipper with the heat on the swallow.
    glad to have tried it.

Welcome one and all to New Beer Sunday #1044! As discussed earlier, this thread was created as a one day tasting in mid to late February 2005, so twenty years ago. I really enjoy exploring new beers and reading about what you are enjoying. This thread has led me to dozens of great beer offerings, many breweries to explore and enjoy, meet ups with several great BAs over the years, and a great way to catalogue and share new beer experiences.

My third and final planned pour of the weekend from a favorite Chicago brewery. They are one of the first Chicago craft breweries, brew great beers across many styles, are big hockey fans and they run a taproom which is a great place to visit. I enjoyed a 2-3 ounce sample (plus a return later) of this offering at FOBAB. It was a top selection for me across all the many great offerings, and I was excited to be able to purchase and contemplate a full pour once I picked this up the first weekend in February. This beer was created for the first time for FOBAB in November, 2024.

2/23/25 - (Can- Home) (Chicago, IL) Can Notes: Purchased refrigerated at Spiteful Brewing for $12.50 per can plus tax on February 2, 2025, and refrigerated upon returning home before opening this morning. 12 oz canned 11/13/24 @ 12:53:41 PM. 13.0% ABV Double Barrel Aged Russian Imperial Stout. Brewed & Canned at Spiteful Brewing, 2034 W. Balmoral Avenue, Chicago, Illinois.
Aged for 3 years in Weller bourbon barrels, then finished for 1 year in an 18 year old Elijah Craig bourbon barrel. The dense body and fudge profile of the base beer was heightened by flavors of coconut and vanilla from its combined 4 years aging in barrels. Brewed with Munich, Dark Chocolate and Caramel Malts.

Appearance: Poured most of the can into a large snifter, yielding a dark pitch black base, and a brief creamy rich dark tan head before retreating to form a cream ring atop the base rim of the glass, and a razor thin cover over about 10% of the base. Looks foreboding and quiet excellent . 4.5

Aroma: After letting twenty minutes to reach proper serving temperature, the standout is a very strong, smooth, wonderful bourbon barrel leading the way. Backing is the roast and caramel malt flavors, and a rich chocolate fudge. A lot going on here, all blends particularly well. can't wait to dive in. 4.75

    Taste:
Rich decadent experience, excellent blend of a rich near pudding like base, caramel, toffee, roast malt, bakers chocolate, chocolate fudge, vanilla, near Neapolitan like with perceived strawberries which are not part of the ingredients. Coconut opens up a bit as this continues to warm with proper measure. The bourbon barrel follows. Smells strong and might be overpowering with the aroma, but comes in on equal terms with a very smooth flavor Getting a nice oak, tobacco complement to this profile. I haven't had this many experiences in a BBA Imperial Stout in quite some time, if not ever. This is among the best I can ever recall after enjoying hundreds. 5.0

Mouthfeel: Subtly strong, felt but with a velvet touch. Faint gentle carbonation, full plus rich decadent creamy body, one of the thickest I have enjoyed in quite some time. Balanced, the sweet flavors balanced by hops and the bourbon barrels. Slight edge to sweetness. Wonderful bourbon chocolate fudge coconut finish. 5.0

Overall: This is one of the best beer experiences I can recall. I really enjoyed this at the festival, but having the full pour confirms this was a top selection and is one of the best selections in this or any styles. Spiteful exceeded very high expectations with my sample. While I have way to much beer, I am picking up more of this to savor and also share. This is a must experience selection. Thank you for everything Spiteful! 5.0

I may go out as planned later today, but will not rate any additional new beers because it wouldn't be fair. I expected a high score based on the sample, but this is among my top beers ever. Hope you all also experience a great beer day.

That's my brother, and he is new posting here between the photo posting difficulty and only formally rating a few beers ever. Will try to get him to provide a few highlights today before the thread closes.

    Cheers!

@DTLVTOUR: Sorry I missed the Hop Nuts and Silver Stamp Anniversaries. Yesterday was truly an epic day in Las Vegas Beer History!

Is this the same beer as their anniversary beer served in previous years, or did they note any changes?

From my experience, the Triple Anniversary from them I have enjoyed in the past is my favorite triple, just ahead of Pliny the Elder and 3 Floyds Permanent Funeral.

Wizard Of Gose - Lemon & Lime from Bandit Brewery

Poured a 473ml can into a pilsner glass. A three finger bubbly white head on a cloudy dirty yellow. The head soon dissipates.

A pretty subdued smell. A strong lemon lime taste up front, somewhat overpowering any malt flavours. Salt is there but masked by citrus. A long, lightly tart finish.

A light body and good carbonation. Overall a light, refreshing Gose, maybe a bit heavy on the citrus.

Goood morning all you dreamers, streamers, pourers, explorers, enjoyers, deployers, sippers, quippers, drippers, judgers, chuggers, drinkers, thinkers, empowerers, and devourers of Great American Beer, and everyone else, and welcome to the 20th anniversary of my favorite thread, New Beer Sunday/W/E!

Big shoutout to malty for starting this thread, whatever true date it was, and for mattcrill carrying on in malty's footsteps. The rest is all recent enough history not to need further mention. Worth noting, however, how things here have stayed to theme these twenty years, and also how different it now is. When this thread started folks would copy and paste New Beer Sunday at the beginning of their post, and then substitute in the style of beer so their posts would begin New IPA Sunday, for instance, or New Imperial Stout Sunday. Then we would see if the style of beer we were to post had been named already, and if it had all subsequent posts would be replies to that original style post. At that time all replies appeared directly under the post replied to, so that by the end of Sunday each posted style would have a bunch of replies descending beneath it. Sooo much better today with music and pictures possible, and much better forum to post in.

Very satisfying and reassuring to see this thread each Sunday, now weekend, and see new faces when I check in to enjoy vicariously what Doc won't let me drink actually. One more time--- Thanks for keeping NBS/W fresh, fun, and informative. Here's to Great American Beer! Cheers y'all!

A - Garnet red, a bit of haze, gentle carbonation assembles into the faintest ring of evidence.
S - Rapsberry, a bit of oak, some dark cherry skin, some vinegar, with some warming the oak and tannins are more pronounced.
T - Cherry, oak, a bit of hibiscus, young claret, up front, then the rapsberry plows through, surprising how the flavor "moves". Tannins are next, with that woody element stopping in.
M - Medium in body, sharp on the palate, tension like Sharks and Jets street dancing in there. A fantastic Cherry/Rapsberry finish. Stunning how expressive the fruit exit is. Then a lighly acidic, mineral chalky finish
O - A fantastic offering, depth and range are delightful, from the obvious fruit elements to the oaky, chalky element. Tart while leaving all your enamel in place. I am struck at how rich the flavors are
