Hello there: Part 2 of today's beer journey...

Since it was just a nip, and I had so thoroughly enjoyed Batch 02 of their Time Capsule Barrel Aged Wild Ale Series (Grapefruit/Lime Zest/Oak) when it was included in last December's curation by Vaughan, Ontario's Small Batch Dispatch, I jumped at the chance to get a miniature of Batch 01 (Lemon/Apricot/Lime) when it was offered just last month by Toronto's Bevi Birra Bottle Shop. It was exceptional, a 4.25 in my books, to be sure...

I noticed that one of my cans from nearby Windsor's very own Rose City Beer Works, which would have been my eighth from their brewery and bottle shop, their 4.9% Lagered Ale with Hallertau Hops, was damaged. I went to see if it could be salvaged, but unfortunately it was undrinkable. Still, I placed the empty can with Sundae. While pouring it, the lid of the can peeled right off--it makes me wonder if it had been canned correctly?

At least it served some purpose, as I got another marvelous photo of my lady's cat.

Have a great rest of your weekend, and cheers, from McGregor, Ontario! =)

Fine looking deep copper body; clear; outstanding carbonation; thick and frothy white head, long-lasting, sticky and spidery fingers of foam cling to the glass' side. Sharply sweet and mildly spicy nose; sublime sweetness. Beautiful, warm taste; an abundance of toasted grains and caramelized sugar sweetness; phenolic and sharp bitterness (but not oppressive). Medium-heavy feel; fairly slick and sticky on the palate.

This is a beautiful Czech-style amber lager, emphasizing the malt character of the beer. Rich and delightfully satisfying.

The stuff didn't really taste "tropical" to me, but in any case it appears to be all hops and too much of a good thing:

The Veil Master Shredder New England IPA, 5.5% ABV; 4.21 overall

Pours a pretty hazed gold with one finger of beige head. Average-ish head retention & lacing

S: Tropical fruits, a little pine, oranges once warm

T: Guava, passion fruit, a little tangerine & pine up front, a little dryness too. Grapefruit picks up as this warms up, along with dryness, pine, & a touch of cattyness & a little cakeyness once warmed up. Finishes with a little pink grapefruit, some pine & passion fruit

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation, lovely balance, body thins a little once warm

Pretty easy to drink, but brings enough bitterness to make want more

Uncaging and uncorking the bottle resulted in a fine airy pop; the body is a clear, light brown tone; a very dense and creamy head; gently rocky with plenty of foam strands cascading down the inside of the glass; dense and long-lasting sheets of foam inside the glass. Mildly sweet nose; subtly bready and yeasty. Very mild chocolate flavor with a notion of hop spiciness; phenolic bitterness adds depth; very faint sense of figs; mildy boozy. Medium body; smooth and airy; velvety and pillowy; a kind of delicate sharpness on the palate; alcohol heat.

This is a strange bird. A generally pleasant beer bringing subliminal balance and nuance to the palate. The malt flavor somewhat reminds me for some reason of zweibach crackers. Overall, I find the beer enjoyable. It is bready with a fine sense of muted sweetness yet also has a somewhat powerful boozy quality. I think this beer would be a fine candidate for some short-term aging to round off the rough edges.

Well, I am home now. I wanted to post this beer earlier, while I was at the brewery, but the internet/phone signal was horrible in the building, and I wasn't going to submit my email to sign into their wifi. I was able to write and submit a review, but it was like pulling teeth to get it uploaded, a picture or posting in this thread - not going to happen till now.

I am not a big fan of AI, and this beer was designed by it. I do have to admit that it did taste good.

    On tap at the brewery.

Murky and hazy looking beer. Very juicy looking. There's a bit of a white head to the beer.
Aroma is full of tropical hop notes. Some mango, pineapple and guava hits my nose.
Taste is dominated by tropical hops. Good hit of mango and a touch of pineapple and guava.
The body is juicy feeling and somewhat soft. Decent body.
    Tasty and delicious.

Al right, I might head out to the garage for another beer - which will be the closer for this NBW.

This is one I had planned on cracking open last weekend but ran out of weekend to drink it. I received this a couple years ago in the Canadian cellar BIF in which participants send boxes of cellared and ‘cellarable’ beers to each other. I am pretty sure this was sent to me by @Tmappin who is one of the two collaborators on this English style barley wine.

This is Tom Hardy English Barley Wine from Delta Force Brewing x Taylor Mappin. Greenwich, Nova Scotia. An internet search suggests that Delta Force suspended operations in December 2022. There are only 4 ratings for this on Untappd. I’m happy to get to try something so obscure.

Pours a deep murky mahogany. With the slightest hint of a head that dissipates to nothing in several breathes.

The aroma is stewed stone fruits, red Twizzlers, syrup soaked bread.

Taste is similar. Lots of sweet stewed stone fruits, fig and some hints of cherry. The sweetness is noticeable, but not off putting.

Body is slightly syrupy. Limited carbonation.

I enjoyed this. I’m happy for the small bottle size as the sweetness does catch up on you. Glad to have tried this. Cheers!

Very cool! This looks interesting, and I like the name . Does it taste similar to Thomas Hardy's Ale? Doesn't sound like it from your review.

I was expecting something similar to Thomas Hardy’s Ale myself, but no. There is a quote on the label from the character played by Tom Hardy the actor from the film Inception. I think they were playing with a couple things here with the name.

It’s also been cellared a while (July ‘21 bottling date).

Another Sunday, another New Beer at Beermongers. Works for me.

    Gold Dot Unfiltered Helles
A one-off keg for an event at The Beermongers. Kegged before going into the filtration system.

Bright yellow-gold body with cadmium yellow highlights and just a touch of haze. The loose head of white foam subsides to a thick ring and a thin island (shaped kind of like Australia, so perhaps I should say continent instead). Nose is full of toasty malt fortified with light floral and herbal hops. The flavor is...wow...fuller and more malty than the regular Gold Dot helles. Still bready and toasty, with minimal sweetness, but with greater depth of flavor. Slight nutty character through the middle, with gentle and gorgeously balanced bitterness. Crackery malt and hop spice linger in the finish. Herbs and multigrain bread crust on the breath.

I've long felt that the regular Gold Dot Helles is kind of...lean? Skinny? I mean, it's clean and soft and malty, sure. And I wouldn't call it disappointing, but I just don't find it as satisfying as some other local helles lagers. But this unfiltered version delivers. More malt, fuller body, greater depth of flavor. Just a gorgeous beer.

From a 16oz can purchased at the brewery. No date on the can.

This beer pours pitch black into the glass. There's no chance of anything shining through the glass. The head is quite thick. It started out mixing with the beer, but ended up as 2 finger and brown colored. The head retention is great, and some nice lacing on the glass
The nose is malty. I am getting a good roasted chocolate hit. I am getting notes of caramel and toffee. Slight coffee hint also shows up.
Taste - up front I am getting a huge coffee hit, and the bitterness from it lasts throughout the flavor profile. There's caramel, toffee, vanilla, and roasted chocolate notes that come into play with the flavor. The bitterness that the beer starts off with lingers and is quite pleasing. Hints of bourbon also take up the rear.
The beer is smooth. The feeling from the bitterness is smooth, if that makes sense. Very full bodied. There really isn't any burn.
Well, I have to say that I am impressed with this beer. Everything seems to work together well.

All right, I am going to sit out here in the garage and enjoy this beer as the storms roll in. Cheers, and see you all the next time this virtual bar opens.

Good evening BAs. My new beer this weekend is an IPA I picked up in IL last Sunday - “Snaggletooth Bandana”, from Solemn Oath Brewery, Naperville, IL:

Pours deep gold with excellent clarity; three fingers of fluffy white foam; excellent cap retention; heavy ring and medium heavy lacing. Grapefruit and peach nose. Dull citrus hops up front; mild bitter grapefruit rind; some pineapple on backend; firm malt base. Medium light body; moderate minus carbonation; no astringency. Overall, mild dull city’s bitter linger; a middle of the road American style IPA.

    4.75 | 3.75 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 4.0

A beer I would not turn down, but would not seek out. Cheers y’all!
