I love their weird hybrid feel from their yeast, not beers I'd ever regular drink but I felt the same way about that beer.

And, just for shits and giggles, here's another post, 100 NBWs after the previous one I shared @Whyteboar. The amount of beers I have tried just because of this thread...

Mostly the same group of misfits, with a few we haven't seen in a while, @tasterschoice62 @RJLarse @bobv

Oh man, that old post, was when Black Page first opened here in Houston. I really enjoyed that spot, but for some reason it never caught on with a lot of other people. It closed less than a year after that post (which as I recall they had just opened that week).

Pours a clear, pink-tinged hue, appears clear and cherry red in the glass; excellent carbonation, dense and slow-rising; pinkish head, one and one-half fingers thick, dense, creamy and long-lasting. Beautiful nose; cherry tones galore; sweet and sour. Phenomenal taste; tart and sweet cherries; cranberry; trace of wood below the fruit presence. Medium-heavy body; velvety and nearly creamy feel counterbalancing the tartness; juicy.

This subtle number likely would fool me into thinking I was drinking cranberry juice if offered in a blindfold test. The balance and complexity is amazing in that the ABV is well hidden while the tartness and sourness, while prominent, is kept in check by not being overpowering. A very refreshing change of pace for a beer experience.

    Good afternoon NBW
I just finished mowing grass and cleaning up around the yard before storms will roll through later. Trying out another beer I picked up in Indy last month.
Odd Sides Rye Hipster Brunch Stout

12oz undated bottle poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 12.7% ABV per label. The beer pours fairly dense, dark brown with medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. Some streaks of lacing hang behind. The aroma is mild plus with notes of maple, chocolate and rye whiskey barrel. The taste is semisweet roasted malt with sweet maple juxtaposed against rye and oak in a delicious back and forth. Mild bitterness. The feel is full bodied with just less than medium carbonation and a semi dry finish. This one really tight rope walks the maple sweetness against drying barrel. Overall, excellent, world class stout.

That's all for me this weekend. I'll be through Indy again this week and stock up for another month of NBW. Cheers all!

I agree. Beyond being a polarizing ingredient, (me thinks Ryan as an example @snaotheus ), cinnamon is a fickle player. I guess the bottle I had was lighter in the spice.

Cheers to @lesdew for this fruit beer. Thanks Andy.

Poured from a twelve ounce can, this fruit beer is a brownish cranberry. Small head and no lacing of consequence.

Aroma is an enticing mix of berries, cherry and apple.

Taste follows nose as the berries carry the flavor with raspberry edging into the foreground. A bit of malt balances but the beer leans sweet, which is fine given the style. Upon finish there is a light lingering sour which is a satisfying conclusion.

Mouthfeel is good (medium) with light carbonation.

A super easy, refreshing and sessionable beer. Reminds me of a mead I tried last week.

Left Hand Chocolate Orange Nitro Stout, 6% ABV. Pours black with a real nice two-finger nitro head that left sparse lacing. Aroma is light chocolate and orange. Taste is orange and chocolate, faintly bitter, slightly sweet. OK mouthfeel, overall good. Not horrible.

Appearance: Dark brown/black, with a huge foamy head, great retention.

Smell: Sweet chocolate with some roast in the background.

Taste: Starts moderately sweet and stays pretty sweet as chocolate and roasted malts come along. Slick and somewhat light feel. Stays sweet until the end, finishes with chocolate and a bit of booziness.

Overall: A very nice baltic porter, plenty sweet but not so sweet that it is hard to drink. Very smooth feel, rich and chocolatety. Tasty stuff!

Dark amber pour, appears a deep mahogany red in the glass, clear; dense, slow-rising carbonation; thin yet lasting head, khaki hued with a fairly dense and creamy texture. Powerful nose infused with rich, toasted caramel notes; nearly hidden pome fruit esters. A divine taste; rich, malty caramel with suggestions of dried figs; earthy spiciness, cardamon with a trace of cinnamon; an earthy booziness. Heavy mounthfeel, thick and viscous; sublime alcohol warmth permeates everything.

Great googly moogly, but this imperial barleywine is fine. The label states this will age gracefully for 25+ years, but 1) I can't wait that long to try this single bottle, and 2) I likely won't be around to drink it at age 94. Yes, this thing is tasty at around six years of age. I consider it a shame that the brewery shut its doors last year, so the likelihood of getting a second bottle of this is slim, but I would jump at the opportunity to get my greedy little beer mitts on another bottle.

Took a birthday trip to Tox yesterday and I brought home some new beers to try.
Up first, Willow, their new Irish Dry Stout. Its that time of year.
Purchased cold at the brewery yesterday and kept cold until served. Poured to a Nonic from 16oz can dated 2/27/26.

The body is extremely black, even the pour stream appears opaque (SRM 40). The pour creates a classic Irish rising/falling reddish brown bubble wall against the side of the glass. And this can has no widget or nitrogen injection. The ¾”/18mm head is deep tan to brown and topographical. The head clings to the glass wall nicely. The full head only survives for about 4 minutes before dropping to a lace capable ring.

The aroma is chalky chocolate and musty.

The taste is very similarly chocolaty with a subtle prune background.

The mouthfeel is very light and despite the beautiful head, the carbonation is also light.

Very drinkable, but not best of style.

NBW coinciding nicely with our lunch plans...
Met up with our friends at our local landmark German restaurant, The Mountain Brauhaus.
    (Celebrating 70 years!)
Had a Köstritzer to start, but moved onto a new one... a freshly tapped Industrial Arts Power Tools WC IPA.
Nothing mind-blowing, but a fresh, well-crafted, highly quaffable American IPA!
    Great meal, great beers!
    Cheers!

A - Pours a lovely golden straw color, great carbonation on full display. A towering white cap is quick to exit.
S - A bit of lemongrass, some biscuit, and a bit of orange peel
T - Malt forward, then a move toward bittering noble hops. Citrus is muted with a nice grassy hop bite.
M - A bit flabby, with a sweet thread that distracts, finish is semi sweet, with a linger that is pleasant
O - A nice pilsner, that is a bit thick, old can maybe. I will seek out a fresher version and report back.

Good Sunday afternoon, New Beer Samplers and commentators. Our in-town brewery, Autodidact Beer, pumps out 1-2 new IPAs (mostly Imperial) each week, along with other favorites. I admire their business model. They do relatively small canning runs so the beer is always fresh. I missed the cans of the other release, Shadetree Mechanics, which sold out in a few hours on Friday (I had that one on draught). I was able to buy cans of Acid Hologram. It is hopped with Krush, Mosaic, Superdelic, and Meridian.

Reviewed 2 days after can release. It is a muddy tangerine color with more than a finger cap of fluffy, bright white foam and lots of soapy lacing inside the glass. The smell is fruity and floral with notes of lemon, lime, orange zest, stone fruit, and the faintest whiff of mint. Its taste is big and fruity with lemon, lime, pineapple, and red berry, balanced by grassy, herbal notes, which I assume come from the Superdelic hops, and a slight hint of pine sap. It has excellent depth of flavor. The hops provide a nice bitter bite with a touch of hop burn, which hopefully will mellow in a week or two. This ale is well-bodied and creamy with moderate carbonation, and like many of Auto's DIPA's it doesn't drink like the posted ABV of 8.6%. Overall, another tasty and enjoyable fruit punch.

Good afternoon BAs! My new to me beer today is “Italian Pils” from Charles Towne Fermentory:

Pours pale gold with excellent clarity; two fingers of white foam; OK cap Retention; some soapy lace, solid ring. Spicy hops nose. Bready malt; spicy hops flavor; mild DMS in the finish. Dry mouth feel; clean, crisp body; moderate carbonation. Overall, I really like the spiciness; an easy drinking Sunday afternoon beer, especially in the heat.

I'm back with another new one already. This style is always controversial here on BA- Pepper infused beer. Fire Coral is a 5.8% Irish Red Ale with hot peppers. This is not a go-to style for me, but every now and then I will try one. It was available yestersday as a single for make-your-own 4-pak so what the hell.
Purchased cold at the brewery yesterday and kept cold until served. Poured to a Nonic from 16oz can dated 3/05/26.

The body appearance is very reminiscent of Coca Cola, but the head is a fine-bubbled, off-white give away that this is in fact a beer.

The aroma is not strong, but there is a hint of the pepper volatiles. It does not imply the spice-heat, just a fresh vegetable sense.

The taste leaves no doubt about the hot peppers, however they are a slow burn and for me at least, tolerable. The front end is reminiscent of hot Italian peppers. There is some hop note and a mild sweetness on the finish. A slow burn stays in the mouth long after the swallow. By the bottom of the glass, the heat magically becomes milder (as I become used to it I guess).

The mouthfeel is light and the carbonation may be medium, but it definitely spreads the heat around.

An okay beer for the experience. I doubt I would purchase a four pack though. This beer would pair well with fried calamari if the kitchen ran out of peppers. Now that I think about it, I could see this pairing well with any deep fried protein.
