I’m not sure how the 2 reviews below mine described it in a similar fashion and then proceeded to give it a score in the mid to high 3s.

I've gotta step up for Dave's Cave Creek Chili Beer. Admittedly it's been 30-ish years since I've had it, but I didn't have the harsh negative reaction it's getting here. It wasn't particularly 'good', and I've never craved another, but it wasn't bad. Lot's of pepper heat certainly, and a weak base beer that was easily overwhelmed, but it wasn't as truly disgusting as the Martin House Hot Pickle beer.

Back during the first big beer boom here in the SF Bay Area, Wizard Brewing foisted some of the most horrendous, foul smelling swill ever to come out of a tap. One stout didn't even make it to my lips it reeked so bad. Great tap handles though.

...hands down the worst beer i've ever had is bully guppy. i was guessing someone would have listed it by now. i traded for it knowing it wasn't loved. BA who sent it my way also warned me it was not going to be good. it lived up to its reputation. just horrible all around.

The one that keeps coming to mind is Dark Lord
i REALLY wanted to try that beer
It was the thing of legend in my neck of the woods years ago and i was lucky enough to have one sent to me .

As soon as i opened it i thought something was wrong with it. The smell was bad, the pour looked like prune juice extract mixed with simple syrup and the taste was even worse.

That beer is for people who grew up on heavily processed american shit "deserts" like twinkies and hohos.

If there was a Dark Lord he would destroy whoever created that cloying garbage beer.

    I absolutely LOVE Dark Lord.

And so does my best friend of 57 years.

We did NOT grow up on Twinkies or Ho-Ho's - couldn't afford them.

I have two 1/5 beers on BA. I thought about leaving out the names, but I love both breweries and consider both examples as anomalies.

The first is Sunday Molé Stout by the otherwise stellar Weyerbacher. It was eight years ago, but I remember where I was when I had this beer. I remember who I was with. I remember the direction I was seated. My terse review: Liquid ashtray. Hard pass.

The second 1/5 is from Hoppin' Frog, another brewer I am otherwise very fond of. The difference is that in this case the style in question is miles from the barrel aged stouts that I usually get from them.

My review of Smashing Jalapeño Blonde:

Hoppin' Frog, I love you. BORIS the Crusher, DORIS the Destroyer...your beers are works of art.

Smashing Jalapeño Blonde might be the worst thing I've ever put in my mouth.

There's a great deal of jalapeno smell, but very little jalapeno taste or heat. Instead, you're treated to a sickening vegetable flavor as if you took leave of your senses and chugged the water left over after boiling spinach.

I felt like I needed to apologize to the ground where I poured this out. I drank a White Claw with gusto just to get the taste out of my mouth. I do not like White Claw. I ENJOYED THE WHITE CLAW. I gave away a second jalapeno beer from another brewer because the mere thought of even opening it made me gag.

Hoppin' Frog, this will not color my feelings for you in any way. You're still aces in my book.

This beer never made sense to me. They seemed to change the recipe every year. Since years it was great, most of the time it was fine, too many years of was straight trash.

I don't know if they still make it (the place is owned by a massive tribe from out near I 5 now for some reason) but it was steadily bad the last few times I had it.

Around 2008-10 there were some real solid batches. And the annual release was always a good time at the brewery. But the inconsistency was so extreme I'm convinced the used a totally new recipe every year

Mine is more situational than the actual beer being horse piss in itself. It was 2007 and me and my brother had just gotten off the train in Munich. Of course after checking into our hostel, we immediately then walked over to the nearest beer garden. As my brother grabbed a seat, I went to go get two beers for us. And at the little stand that I went to, they only had two options. A Helles (which I knew I have had before, given that I grew up in a town with a great German deli), and then there was another option. One that I knew that I had never tried before, so I excitedly ordered 2 and gave it a go. So I sauntered back to my brother and happily placed both beers down on the table. Then I swiftly took a seat and finally me and my brother took a sip of our beers. And oh my hell, what was this hell? At the time being, it really was the worst beer that I have ever had in my life (and also this during this trip I drank a warm can of malt liquor on the train on the way to Switzerland). I couldn’t finish it, while my brother painfully took all of his down. Oh, and what was this beer? It was a Radler! Beer mixed with lemonade! Ayyyyyy. Never again! Fun experience in the end though.

Camo Genuine Ale. Rancid demon spit. Just horrific. Never meant to be a good beer but made Steel Reserve taste like Chimay.

I read those as well and was confused. To each their own, I guess.

Never had it, but I can't imagine that it would be enjoyable. Chilis in food? Yes, fucking, please! Chilis in beer? HARD pass.

That bit made me giggle, but then kinda tilt my head wondering.

If you look at the amount of calories compared to ABV, the Platinum is actually lower. There are 26 calories for each “point” of ABV for regular BL. For the Platinum, there’s 23 calories for each point of ABV, so you get less caloric bang for your buck from the Platinum.

I’ve never heard of Platinum before, I wonder if it’s the same base beer as BL but less watered down?
