Got one of them in my liquor cabinet. Any thoughts the good, the bad, the ugly?

Seems to have been a hate it or love it beer.

No way to be sure up front before opening and sampling.

Only one way to know for sure. FWIW, my '97 was wonderful.

Drink it and tell us. I STILL have a few bottles of it left, from 97 though.

Worst beer ever. Made my buddy puke. I shit you negative. If you like disgusting maple syrup with alcohol then dive right in.

I have a buddy who still has one, I think from 1997. Next time we get together he's going to be bringing it. I don't know whether to look forward to trying it or not...

Have the sashimi and a little bit of wasabi ready and you are good to go with that one

It's plain horrid. We decided to pour some beef broth concentrate in a second glass to compare them side by side. Very similar, but the broth won by a small margin

I had a 96' about a year ago and it was interesting and drinkable but only had a couple ounces. I don't imagine yours will be getting any better with age with 20 years on it... I have a 95' and opening it next year.

1997 was the Devil's handiwork. I can't imagine an even older bottle would be any better.

Sounds delicious....let us know! 20 year beer tastes are not that prevalent on here.

These are very hit and miss. I've had some that were horrible (soy, teriyaki, salty cardboard, etc.) but we cracked a '96 a few months ago and it wasn't that bad. Maybe you'll be lucky and get a good one? Apparently storage really, really matters with something that old. The one I got lucky with was in the back of an old fridge the entire time.

The lousy quality, "sherry/port" style straight-sided corks used for the SATB bottles probably didn't help, either.

This was one of the first craft beers I ever tried and almost the last. Drain pour then, drain pour now

Yeah I had a 95 a few months back and obliterated the cork. It wasn't bad for as old as it was. All malt with a touch of tang/tartness; almost no booze either. We had quite a bit of coagulate/flem/bloodclot/featus in the bottom of the bottle. Tried to get my buddy to eat it on a small wager but to no avail.

That's funny - a non BA at work happens to have a triple bock from the mid 90s and he was asking about if it's still good. I will direct him to this forum. I was thinking "no" but I really have no experience in the matter.
