I wonder if there is any interest in a top beers list that lists all the top beers in every style? There are about 109 different styles listed here, if you took the top beers in every style and weighted them to remove style bias what would it look like? In effect a AAL like PBR with style bias removed (mathematicly) would be right up there with Pliny the Younger. Data wonks please reply!

I'll admit I'm a data nerd. Better yet, I'm an uninformed one.

"Mathematically removing style bias" and lumping everything into one list would result in a list with 109 ties for first place, wouldn't it?

I'd be interested in a ranking of styles. Which style has the highest average rating? 2nd highest? And so on.

Overall, I wouldn't really expect any new lists. But I'd be happy to have better access to raw data. Or even just filterable lists.

No. He wants a different list entirely, one which is corrected for style bias. That correction would probably involve something like taking the average of all ratings and then taking the average of just the German Pils style beers and adding to every score in the Pils list the difference between the Pils average and the overall average. Then doing the same for RIS, which would probably require subtracting the difference between the RIS average and the overall average from every RIS score, etc. for every score in every style after figuring out whether to add or subtract.

I think thats on the right track. I'm not a data wonk, so I'm not sure what the formula should be, but it seems to me a weighting of high score per number of reviews might be useful. Maybe not.

But you do know about the individual style Top Beer lists, right?
    For example for AAL:

Yes of course but that doesn't compile all the top beers of every style in one list.

For myself such a list would have no practical use or value, since I tend to focus on a single style for a while and can extract the ones I want to buy/try from the individual style list.

So I'd be interested in what you think would be useful about such a list?

It would put an end to the continual harping about style bias (I know, not likely)

Thanks. Yeah, I agree, not likely. :-)
