Before the website was revamped one of the conditions for adding a new beer was to do a full review of that new beer. I can understand not requiring a full review but I feel requiring at least a rating before a beer is added is reasonable. Recently I've noticed beers added that haven't been released yet. The beers appear to be added from information on their approved labels. Why the shift in philosophy or is this a bug? My preference would be to have only beers that are available listed in the BA database.

Doesn't bother me, it's a convenience when you're out and look up a beer and find it vs. having to enter it. I also don't find that many.

I think the reasoning is that the beers exist, why not list them? For example, say you're at a brewpub, they have 10 beers, but none are listed here. You try the sampler tray of 6, but what about the other 4? Might as well add 'em.

Thanks for your feedback, but since enabling adding a beer without a rating back in October 2013 (almost 8 months ago), the number of new beers added per week has quadrupled.
    • More brewers are adding their beers.
    • Members who were previously restricted from adding beers are now adding them, which benefits everyone.
    • More beers in the database means they can be found in search engines and on the site.
    • If a beer is in the database, the chances of it being rated greatly increase.
As for people entering soon to be released beers ... see above. So long as it's indeed being releases soon, I see no harm in adding them in advance.

We're extremely happy with this update. We will not be going backwards.
