Adding new breweries - feedback

What @zid said. The mod team might take some extra time to validate and expand upon the submitted place. It also depends on when it was submitted and mod availability.

The current system doesn't support sending a message when a place gets approved or denied. We'd basically need to bridge our custom pages with the third-party forum software to make this happen, but we're in the middle of a massive forum upgrade so it's not feasible to scope this work right now.

 

You can't add beers to a brewery if the brewery hasn't been approved yet.

 

Yeah. We're talking over a decade ago. Before the forum switch in early 2012.

 

I've been a beerfly guide > global beerfly guide > site editor > moderator for like 18 years now, and I can tell you that the approval of new establishments (breweries, bars, stores, et al) is an involved process.

First off, there are users new and seasoned who don't 'search' well or at all and think they're the first person to have discovered Monks Cafe, Spuyten Duyvil, The Publick House, Hopleaf, Novare Res, Blind Tiger, Toronado, Churchkey, The Map Room, Brick Store Pub, etc. and look to add them in, so each and every establishment being added in has to get a 'does the establishment already exist?' once over. The amount of 'this establishment already exists in the database' beermails I've sent is staggering.

But mostly, it's people half-assing or quarter-assing (that's when you half-ass a half-assing) the 'Add a place' form.

I've seen where people put their own name on the name line istead of the establishment name.
I've seen where people write '359 Metropolitan' on the address line (Metropoltan what? Street, Avenue, Road, Circle, Way, Drive, Court, Boulevard, Highway, Goat Trail, what?!?!)
I've seen where people round up to the nearest big(ger) town/city on the city line.
I've seen the absence of a whoooooole lot of easily google-able phone numbers and zip codes.
I've seen junk websites or links to other or similar businesses but not the one you're setting up ('Four Seasons Total Landscaping' style).
And then not tagging the establishment for what it is/does under 'place type' is a pretty big time crunch. I mean, you tagged it as a brewery, and then we do our due dilligence by hunting around on their website and see their food menu (has a kitchen/serves food) and pics of growlers/crowlers (sells beer to go). Sometimes oftimes, the website sucks and we're now scrolling their facebook page or instagram to try and figure out what the place is about, because you, the person who's been there, is not sharing.

Establishments moving to a new address or opening seconday locations is no easy treat either.

Shit ain't easy, that's all I'm saying. Please be patient with us.
