This morning I was shocked to find out my trade history now records 1 bad trade. Only problem is no beer was ever sent out. A trade Was agreed to but I didn't feel comfortable with what I was giving up and backed out. I posted an ISO thread yesterday and now this dude probably out of retaliation left negative feedback because he didn't get the beer he wanted from me. My question is, is that a valid reason to leave negative feedback and can this somehow be changed on my record?

I think once a trade was agreed upon it should be a done deal. Not sure about the negative feedback, but some feedback is warranted

Always two sides two story, maybe @hustadaj wants to chime in here.

Without knowing all of the facts, if trade was agreed upon and you backed out, you very well can be seen as a bad trader. Losing beer is not the only barometer of a bad trade. You agreed to the trade, you should have honored it.

One really ought to be "comfortable" with a trade before making the trade official.

At the least it is bad etiquette.

I will leave it to others to chime in on whether bad trader is warranted for this, I am too much out of the loop nowadays.

Well, instead of starting this thread you probably should have pmed a Mod a with your question or Todd since they're the only ones who can correct the feedback if it's unwarranted. Doesn't matter what anyone else here thinks.

But now that you've outed yourself, there's many who believe that backing out of an agreed upon trade does make you a bad trader. So.......you just announced it to the world.

Also, according to feedback left you backed out twice.

Fair enough, I appreciate all the input guys and have to admit I should have handled it differently. But this trade was a agreed upon months ago and it wasn't until yesterday that the negative feedback was left.

You agreed to a trade, and then changed your mind. Stand by your word or your word means nothing.

From here it looks like you came across a similar trade, and thought you could get more/better beer with your bottle.

Now, if you agreed to a trade and then the other party stopped communicating completely it's fine to drop it. I'll give them a couple days when that happens, but after that it's on them.

If you clicked accept trade and then changed your mind your a bad trader in my eyes. That's the entire purpose to having a trading system.

You shouldn't accept the trade until all the details are agreed. I always send a final note to someone I am organizing a trade with that is along the lines of:
"OK just to confirm everything in one place, I am sending you X, Y & Z, and you will be sending me A, B, & C. We will both ship this week via Fedex. I will send a trade request now, so if this isn't correct please let me know before you accept"

Once you accept, deal is done in my opinion.

Edit - in fairness, it seems like no beer was ever shipped from either person in this instance, so it is a bit of a grey area. I would view this as a lot less serious than someone who simply didn't ship the beer and kept all the stuff I sent them.

As I think a bit more, perhaps this is more a 'not great' rather than a 'bad'. You at least did tell the person and back out before any beer was shipped, but it is still very bad form to back out of an agreed to deal.

The feedback left seems pretty clear that no beer changed hands, but that you backed out of the deal - if this is true, I am afraid you might need to just eat the bad feedback

The bolded part of your quote should be a damn sticky on the top of the ISO:FT forum.

Sure - I agree. If a Mod wants to do that, by all means.

There should be an area in the trade request with the details listed of what both parties are agreeing to.

Is that really necessary? I mean, I assume a Mod could look at an old series of messages and see what was agreed to.

I remember reading that mods can't view private messages. Also it make more sense to just agreeing to trade with no details listed. If it were public it would also help with the value threads.

So now people are leaving feedback on negotiation skills? What's next, rate the users response time to BMs?

Get over it and move on.

I would be pissed off.... Probably call you an asshole via message.

But no beers were shipped... and even though it sounds like you moved the goalposts after you hit the agree button, personally I would probably just let the trade die.

I know I am in the minority.

    I'm with you

No beers changed hands = not a bad trade. Certainly not a good one, and warrants the "okay" feedback w/ explanation, sure, but not a bad trade. No one is out beer, money, etc.
