Pannepot Grand Reserva is aged in Calvados barrels.

Anyone else have a preferred style for these barrels? I enjoy a barleywine, but find stouts to clash with the flavors.

Prairie does an Apple Brandy Noir....i found batch 1 to be way to barrel heavy and sweat...JW Lees Calvados Cask was amazing, very well balanced...

Prairie Apple Brandy Noir is a beautiful beer, definitely one of my top 3 BAs, and one of my favorite beers overall.

I think the Apple Brandy takes over the style, at least in those I've tried. I just had Funky Buddha's Saint Toddy aged in Apple Brandy, and the apple was the most dominant flavor. Same goes with a Night Shift beer El Lechedor (Milk Stout) aged in Apple BB, and again, too much apple. Palate? Apple aversion?

Are all of these stouts listed just the barrel, or do any have adjuncts?

I've had Hardywood Apple Brandy Gingerbread Stout... and I'd rate it higher than the Rum Barrel GBS. Given that, I would still take a plain-jane GBS or Christmas Morning first and foremost. Followed by a bourbon barrel GBS and Kentucky Christmas Morning... followed by the more exotic variants at the beginning of the thread.

Barrel aging the GBS/Xmas Morning transforms it into something that gets more and more unlike a gingerboard stout the farther down the barrels you go. And sometimes you just want a plain-jane gingerbread stout.

If you haven't had it try trading for aslin buku mocha. The description on untapped etc only describes the base beer but it's actually about 5% stronger than it says and is aged in ab barrels. Fantastic beer but at 18.5% watch out. And seconded on the ab gbs as well, tastes like Christmas applesauce

Will second this recommendation. Fabulous beer.

These sound tasty, I will have to keep a look out for them. I am not sure what would be available in AZ.

Dark Sky has used several apple brandy barrels. We have two calvados casks in Tombstone. Us and Dark Sky also got peach brandy barrels at the same time recently
