Some Wookey Jack showed up recently, after a 6? yr absence. Forgot how good it is.
Asked if they knew when more might show up. They had already asked. A: probably close to never. It only got here by accident.

I picked up a 6-pack of Wookey Jack yesterday and just posted my review. It is an excellent beer. If I ever had it before, it was when i was in California over 9 years ago.

Triple Crossing in RVA just released Bad Luck City, which they are calling a Black IPA. I believe a first for them, or if not the first in some time.

Good beer, but doesn't have the hoppy notes I'd expect in a Black IPA.

Draft Wookey Jack came in to NYC early last year.
Cans & draft were brought in this year by design (not by accident).
Hopefully, it remains an annual release.

I see I posted on this thread over the summer about Carton Epitome. Once again it came out Thanksgiving week and I snagged a few four packs. It’s one of my favorite beers and this year was excellent as always. They also just releases a black coffee IPA that I have not gotten yet but would love to try.

To me, I think they may be dying. I hardly see them anymore, and I live here in Burlington t where supposedly Greg Noonan invented black IPAs.

I see plenty in California, I rarely see them elsewhere.

I did my part this year. I picked my first six pack of Wookey thinking it would be a one and done situation but a month or so later I have a few cans in the 'fridge from my third six pack.

How well does Wookey Jack hold up with age? A beer retailer local to me still has this beer available but I am concerned that it might be too old (for a hoppy beer) at this point in time.

    Cheers!

This third six pack was canned on October 8. I bought it out of the refrigerated section of WF ($9.99 for Prime shoppers). Perhaps there is a bit more of the malt showing up now but it still remains one very hoppy ale which I really enjoy.

I have been converted into a Black IPA fan.

NBW cross-post. I opened this weekend's thread with this beer because I wanted to highlight how delicious it is.

Here at Foothills we make a Black IPA called Frostbite (available now if you're in NC.)
Without exaggeration or marketing hyperbole, it's my favorite beer we make. I grab cases-upon-cases of it every winter for personal use (i.e. drinking).

I really like the Black IPA style and would love to see it make a comeback.

Whenever I see a Black IPA, I pick it up. Fits two of my three main cravings (hops and mild roast [porter fan]). Kinda glad that they're not everywhere, because I might to buy anything else.

Bill, with a brand name of "Frostbite" I take it that your Black IPA is a Winter seasonal?

Is the marketing thought here that a dark beer such as a Black IPA sells 'better' in the Winter times as opposed to year-round?

    Cheers!

I just saw Greenbrier Mothman on the shelf working the last week in WV. I believe it’s seasonal and I was shocked to see fresh cans, as last I’d heard Greenbrier had closed, but apparently they found a way. It’s a good example of the style, which I also enjoy. I almost bought some, but went for another local beer.
