I don’t know. The site has been around since the Clinton administration—Ted Kaczynski was arrested, Michael Jordan and the Bulls set an NBA win record (and went on to beat my beloved Sonics in the NBA Final), the Summer Olympics were held in Atlanta, and Bob Dole was the Republican nominee for president—and yet here we still are, finding new shit to talk about. Breweries will open and close, new beer styles will evolve, new trends will emerge … if we haven’t run out of topics yet I doubt we ever will.

Yep, we like to appreciate beer! The people involved in the threads should make the decisions about the threads. People not involved shouldn't be making any decisions about where they go or what happens to them. Telling other people what to do when it literally has no impact on yourself is not what BA is about.

Um, didn’t @Luscious_Malfoy just tell @AlcahueteJ what to do in saying that he needs to get lost?… Or maybe I’m missing some next-level irony

I said "Telling other people what to do when it literally has no impact on yourself" is not BA. This is completely different since the OP is saying something that directly impacts those that are participating in these threads. Apples and oranges.

The closest thing the OP says that could potentially impact users is this: “Perhaps it would be best to have a separate section for these threads and not have them in Beer Talk?” Seems kind of like he’s just putting a question/suggestion out there to see how people feel about it. No harm in that—and more than a third of us agree with the idea. And actually, the whole point of the question was that having all these beer appreciation threads on the first page of Beer Talk does negatively affect the experience for some users, in that they have to wade through more threads to get to topics they’re interested in. It’s a legitimate comment from an active user. Negating those people’s experience just because you don’t happen to agree with it doesn’t make it any less valid.

    Thanks for the laugh:wink:

There was a 2023 appreciation thread I planned on reviving, but I guess will wait a few more days to see how this thread develops / turns out. I'm tagging @jonphisher who started this last year as perhaps he may wish to revive the thread.

Oldies But Goodies - a Classics Appreciation Thread (2023)

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...s-a-classics-appreciation-thread-2023.671138/

I enjoyed reading and participating, even though I never posted a beer in the thread because I love the discussion. Pretty much the same with the others I read. Scanning through it, it was more of a discussion thread with occasional posts mostly of people excited they found a classic beer they haven't seen in ages.

Saison is the only one I definitely try to post each of the beers I enjoy (typically a dozen or so a year), but have posted beers in a few others as well as the occasion dictated or when I wanted to post a review during the week.

I'd like to stick around & read more, but I gotta get back to the Hamm's appreciation thread:stuck_out_tongue:!!

Maybe the 20 years streak has ended…:stuck_out_tongue:

    Im joking, both of you.

Thanks @ChicagoJ I enjoyed all of the conversations that came up there and it prompted me to revisit several beers, hopefully it did the same for others.

A certain someone asked if I was gonna start it again and I said I had the perfect beer for it, I just hadn’t got around to it yet. It did have a good run there for a while but then slowly got buried, as users will take care of what lasts and what doesn’t. Partly why I think moving or canceling appreciation threads makes no sense, the site will take care of it on its own. Maybe I’ll get around to opening said bottle and thread soon.

See @Orca 's quoted post below

I also think those are excessive, but to a lesser degree. There aren't nearly as many of those.

@KP7 encapsulates my feelings quite well.

    That thread got nuked?

Nope! This is exactly what I wanted, some good discussion here. I like seeing people's opinions on this topic. I thought maybe I'd be alone in it, but looks like a fair amount of people agree with me.

I'm wondering if that's a thread that shouldn't have been annualized. But if it's started again it gives everyone who posted last year an opportunity to rave about their 'classic' again.

I was hoping you were thinking about creating a version for this year!

Do agree with @PapaGoose03 that this was one thread which may have made sense to allow open beyond a year, but we can always link to previous year threads in the Opening Posts.

I'll sit back and chill until I come across your thread when it comes time for you to revisit the perfect classic beer you have stashed away (at least mentally, if not in your refrigerator or cellar).

    Cheers!

I kind of thought the same thing about it be annualized, it got bumped a few week ago and I was planning to just add a post to it but then it got locked and I never started a new thread. I do have the perfect beer for it, and since their seems to be interest in it I will work on getting an opening post together that includes a link to last years thread.

I don’t want my quip about NBS to derail the important discussion here about excessive appreciation threads, but yes, after 15+ years of weekly threads, New Beer Sunday’s 804-count run was unceremoniously ended and replaced by New Beer Weekend #1.

One reason I dislike so many appreciation threads is that I suspect they may detract from participation in WBAYDN and the periodic tastings (which I love) and NBW (which is dead to me anyhow, so whatever).

At a certain point, you’ve gotta choose where you’re gonna post: (1) WBAYDN, (2) Regional WBAYDN, (3) NBW, (4) Style Appreciation Thread. Then for some there’s a (5) Single Beer or (6) Brewery Thread. Maybe add a (7) Hints & Hauls post, too? Not to mention a (8) review, obviously. And maybe a post on another NextGlass property (9) or Discord server (10) — or certainly Igmur or something if you want to post a photo here.

No, not nuked. It was expanded to cover Saturday and Sunday by popular demand at the time + we opened it up to allow others to start the thread. And when I asked in 2021 if we should return to New Beer Sunday, the no votes won: https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/should-we-bring-back-new-beer-sunday.659151/

For every beer style appreciation thread posted there needs to also be a depreciation thread for another style if we follow the laws of physics.

I'm glad you read it as a joke. Sometimes reading a joke does not capture tone. I have seen some conversations go sideways here due to the comical intent being missed.

In this thread I learned about this feature in which you can ignore a thread.

Kidding! But seriously, I knew this was a hot topic, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I understand the passion people have for some threads on Beer Advocate.
