    Therein lies the major twist!

I sense your cheekiness, but I promise you that distribution is getting more complex for various reasons including the fact that consumers are getting more savvy about fresh beer.

More complex? Or more conscientious? That would be good to hear.

Well, a little of both. Complex in as much as the number of SKUs grows on a daily basis and the need to keep that cold/cool/refrigerated makes the task that much harder to do.

I can understand and appreciate all of that, but I have to wonder how many of the distros in my area take that to heart.

A few years back Pilsner Urquell started their system of cold-to-cold sales; all of their beer would be shipped cold, stored cold, and presented cold at the retail level. I saw it active for maybe a year, now I see PU stacked on retail floors next to all of the other beers -- import and otherwise.

On top of it all, I see so many out of date beers on shelves -- import and domestic (including craft), I can't believe the local distros see consumers as savvy in any way -- at least not yet. I hope that will change considerably.

Interesting critique and comments @steveh ... I "get" this just as any Euro-lovin' beer geek does. The problem at this stage is now more rooted with the consumer and sales of import beers vs. US craft. Like it or not, the expanded US craft brand-of-the-week carousel is not ending anytime soon, the beer dollars are going more towards US craft (vs Euro imports) than ever before. As they say in Germany, a real Teufelskreis.

Well, I can report that my area is that way. Every year the choices of European imported get less and less. In contrast the choices of Mexican imports (AAL beers) seems to be expanding.

    Cheers!

See the Am Dom one? I was in this I think?? 3 years ago and along with the tables out front and inside there was a tiny place at the side which was the size of an elevator and the beer served through the hatch here was cheaper than in the rest of the building!!

Pretty sure it was this place...Am Dom? Although my mind might be playing tricks??

Perhaps you are thinking of Bratwurst Gloeckl am Dom. They are located toward the back corner from the Frauenkirche and Andechser am Dom is quite close. If you go in the back door, you can stand in a very small area and drink your Augustiner from the wooden keg. No standing outside allowed and you have to juggle position as people try to get downstairs to the toilet or to the upstairs seating area. We think the food here is great, by the way. http://www.bratwurst-gloeckl.de/en/home/

Andechser Am Dom is always crowded, so I've spent a decent amount of time at the places around there (like the Bratwurst Gloeckl am Dom) while waiting for some space to free up. While that 3 meat platter at Andechser Am Dom is my favorite meal in the area, those Nuremberg brats are fantastic. Will check out the back door option in a few weeks!
