Poll #1 resulted in a need for a runoff for ABV between 5.2%, 5.3%, and 5.4%.

If you don't know what these projects are about, do a search on Averagely Perfect American IPA, Averagely Perfect American Stout, Averagely Perfect Saison, or Averagely Perfect NorthEast IPA. But basically, these projects build crowd sourced recipes among the BAs here on the Homebrewing forum.

This poll (#2) will determine the ABV target.

Simple plurality takes this one. No write-ins.

If you have issues with or suggestions for methodologies used in this project, please send them via beermail. Let's keep the threads themselves on topic to the question at hand and not about how you would have asked the question differently.

The next poll(s) will determine Final Gravity (FG), and thus Original Gravity (OG).

This poll will be open for 36 hours.

The Averagely Perfect ESB Recipe so far...
Target ABV: 5.2% or 5.3% or 5.4% TBD (this poll)

    Inconceivable!

But yes, if there's a tie, I'll take the mean of all the votes in this poll and round to the nearest tenth.

You, being a man of knowledge, will have a clear idea of mans mortality, and therefore would put the glass with the poison as far away from yourself as possible. I can, therefore, not choose the glass in front of me.

I thought this was about beer not a battle of wits( is this a pun?) with a Sicilian.

did the other beers go through these minimal polls? I mean I fully support the original poll, but another 3 days poll on 5.2 vs 5.4? Really? does .02 or in-between really matter? what is going on

Since you're not okay with the way these projects work, or with the ground rules, I recommend you run your own project. I reckon your 17 posts in the homebrewing forum before this project started will provide you with more than enough credibility to get that venture off to a great start.

p.s. Your troll math is terrible.

I get that you don't post here often, and you haven't seen the other polls and recipes that came from them. But honestly; if you don't have anything meaningful to add, why are you wasting peoples time?

I get what you are saying, but bear with the program. Everyone approaches recipe formulation differently. Most of us could rattle off a recipe for ESB, and we could send it off to Vikeman, and he could average it all out and post the recipe in a day, and we could move on to the next thing. But that's not the way this works. It wouldn't capture the decision making that some folks insert into the process. There is something to be learned, but it is not for those with short attention spans.

Personally, I don't really spend anytime thinking about ABV per se when I brew a batch. I figure out what I want the OG to be, figure out what yeast I want, and, then leave it up to them to do the math. Maybe part of that is thinking about how attenuative the yeast is. But the fact that a long-time brewer does think about recipe formulation in this other, meticulous way does give me pause to wonder if there might be something to it.

Hey there, you 5.3% voters -- time to change your vote and decide if you prefer 5.2% or 5.4%. Unlike your vote for a third-party candidate just cause you hate the other 2 parties, political statements serve no purpose in Averagely Perfect polling.
