-> Poll #15 <- determined that the flavor/aroma hops (if any) will be Hallertau Mittelfrüh & Tettnang.

This poll will determine the IBU target. Note: The bittering model will be standard Tinseth. After this poll, we'll come back around to determine a bittering hop philosophy.

If you want an IBU target that's not listed, write it in.

When this poll is done, I will look at the data a few different ways to determine the central tendency. It may or may not be as simple as a plurality would indicate. There may or may not be a runoff. It depends on the data. Pollster reserves the right to cast (or not) tie-breaking votes.

This poll will be open for 48 hours.

If you have issues with or suggestions for methodologies used in this project, please send them via PM. Let's keep the threads themselves on topic to the question at hand and not about how you would have asked the question differently.

I went with 1.023, since 1.045 is on low end for style and per Mad Alchemist's analysis, average BU:GU ratio for the style is 0.511, so 45 * 0.511 = 23.

Realistically, most people are unable to discern differences within 3-4 IBUs anyway, so the exact value doesn't even really matter as long as we're in the general ballpark of say 21-25 IBUs. If everybody likes 25 because it's a nice number easily divisible by 5, then sure, whatever. If you're going to use a dumb math-related reason to choose a number, then personally I would like 24 better for that reason because it is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 12. That's almost even cooler than 23 which is a prime number.

As the square of a prime number, all mathematical logic points to 25 ibus.

But 24 is a prime multiplied by a prime cubed! 3x2^3!

    After removing outliers...

    mean: 24
    median: 25
    mode: 25

    Calling it for 25 IBUs.

Spoken like someone whose vote didn't win?
But, truth be told, I was with @dmtaylor on this, about small differences in IBUs not really worth quibbling about. I really did vote for 25 because of the aesthetic of it being the square of 5.
