The pre-poll determined that the NorthEast variety to be built will be an IPA (vice APA).

(This will be the fourth Averagely Perfect project. If you don't know what these are about, see the genesis of the first one here... http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/the-averagely-perfect-american-ipa-project.59552/ and subsequent polls. Or do a search on Averagely Perfect American IPA, Averagely Perfect American Stout, or Averagely Perfect Saison.)

This poll (#1) will determine the ABV target.

When this poll is done, I will look at the data a few different ways to determine if there is a central tendency. It may or may not be as simple as a plurality would indicate. There may or may not be a runoff(s). It all depends on the data.

If you have issues with or suggestions for methodologies used in this project, please send them via beermail. Let's keep the threads themselves on topic to the question at hand and not about how you would have asked the question differently.

This poll will be open for 48 hours.

I went with 7.2%. I am continually brewing a 6.4% IPA for my test batches and 5.5% APA as well so I personally want something bigger. Go big or go home y'all!

6.5% for me. Not too strong, not too weak. Just about right for an IPA IMO.

I like upper mid 6%, 6.7 to 6.9% would be fine. Seems to strike the the balance, not approaching DIPA, but different from PA. Of course this is a simplification. Additionally, looking at the benchmarks, The Alchemist, Tired Hands, Trillium, Hill Farmstead, and Tree House, 6.8% seems to be on the money.

I went 6.7%. That is about the sweet spot for me. I would have been happy w/ a 5% PA too but this should be fun

6.7% for me. I like my IPAs in that 6.5-7% range. That splits it down the middle for me.

5.9 for me, I still want to be able to drink more than one or two at a time.

Some of these values are much lower than what the actual NEIPA brewers consider an IPA. Hell, Trillium's pale ale is 6.6%! I understand wanting to brew lower ABV beers that you can crush, but that's just not what a NEIPA is. Looking at Tree House, Trillium, Alchemist, Hill Farmstead, etc. beers as guidance the range would be more like 6.8% to 7.2%. I must not understand the point of this exercise if 6.1 is a leading candidate...

7.2%, for now, to help out the bell curve. I'm happy anywhere between 6.5% and 7.2%.

I went 6.9 but an average of all the votes would be cool. And let me also say I don't know the difference between Average and Mean.

I voted 6.5. Might I also suggest linking to the previous post for each subsequent one as it is fun to follow these in reverse as they get bigger. Just an idear.

I'm pretty sure that @VikeMan is not aiming to clone any specific beer. The APA IPA in the beginning was an interesting experiment that turned out really well. Perhaps this will end up with a better beer than any of those you listed. 6.1% might be a sweet spot that no one has ever tried because everyone knows that a NEIPA is bigger than that.

I'm chomping at the bit for hop choice. And grist. And yeast. Can't wait to see what way people want to go.
