Never heard of Carcavelas. Sounds interesting, though.

Me either, but some googling shows it's a fortified wine from Portugal. A sweet tawny it sounds like.

It would have been interesting to try a non-sour aged in these barrels. Sounds like an awesome setup for a barleywine.

On a side note, FFF made a Carcavelos BA Stout which was apparently not very good: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/143937/

I just happen to be passing through the area in time for this. For someone who's never been to Avery, what are their releases like at the brewery? A 1-case limit seems to conflict with 285 total cases, like they're setting themselves up for a sell-out and a lot of disappointed people in line. How early should I be there?

A case is 24 bottles. With 285 cases there will be no need to rush and stand in line. It might sell out but it will be late in the day if that happens

OK, thanks for the info--much appreciated. I'm most recently coming from the Fundamental Observation release that had a 6-bottle limit and left some people empty-handed who got there 20 minutes after the sell time, so I'm not eager for a repeat of that scenario.

I don't feel too sorry for anyone who shows up to a limited release after it starts and doesn't get bottles. Nature of the beast...

Avery stated the 12 bottle limit 2 weeks ago and stated it was brewery only.

They commented on one of the posts. The one from Kristine on June 26th. Avery's comment on June 30th (so not quite 2 weeks but close enough) was:

Yes, $12 per bottle, limit 12 bottles per person!

Also posted that same day on that same event day that it was Brewery Only

In October, Spontanea and Einzigartig were each less than 200 cases and they were both in the cooler for a week or so after the release day. As long as you get there in the early afternoon you should be fine. Make sure to check out the draft list - they tend to throw some pretty cool stuff on when they release the BA Series.

I ended up being the first in line yesterday, around 40 mins early. Only 40-50 people lined up when the doors opened, but I had to hit the road quickly and have no idea how the afternoon progressed. Einzigartig was still in bottles in the cooler for sale, 1 limit.

I'll Dolia was also on tap, so I tried a taster before I left. Quite sour! Good stuff, but I'll hold off on a full review until I've tried one of the bottles.

Likewise, I still need to get some.

My guess is that it'll be around awhile, I've never seen or heard them selling more than 100-120 cases on a release day with a 12-bottle limit. And if they held back 50 cases or whatever they normally do for cellaring, I imagine they have another 50-100+ cases? Rudimentary guess though.
