So I've been checking this brewery out, and some of their IPAs seem to be awesome. It would appear they're draft only, is this correct? Do people ever trade for their growlers? How do they fill their growlers, and do they generally hold up well with a bit of time? Just wanted to get some info before making an attempt at getting any. Thanks for your help!

Barley Brown's is in Baker City, which is several hours east of Portland. However, we do see a lot of their beers on tap around here. I can confirm that they make some awesome hoppy beers.

To the best of my knowledge, they have only bottled one beer so far: a massive black IPA called Chaos. It was released at the brewpub just before Christmas last year, and there were only 666 bottles available.

I have never traded for BB growlers, but I have received several from a friend in the area and they've always held up very well, though I'd advise you drink said growlers as quickly as possible. They do indeed make some fantastic hoppy ales!

Yes, draft only (except the Chaos release).

    Yes, people trade for them.

In Oregon, anyone can fill growlers. Breweries, bars, grocery stores, gas stations, even food carts. Some places counter-pressure fill, some places purge with CO2, and some just bottom-fill it off the tap with a hose.

Apparently the brewery has been pressuring bars not to fill growlers of some of their beers (Pallet Jack in particular, but generally the "IPAs" vs the "Pale Ales"). But, if you look around it's usually still possible.

Sorry for the title mistake, brain fart, I was looking at some taplists in Portland, and saw a lot of Barley Browns stuff, so Portland was on the brain.

Hey, as long as they keep selling kegs of Pallet Jack to businesses with the word "Growler" in the name (this one, for instance), I will keep buying growlers as long as they'll let me.

I guess they've switched back, since there is a growler price listed on their website, but all of Growler Guys, Tin Bucket, and NWIPA were refusing to fill growlers of Pallet Jack for a while: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/barley-browns-tank-slapper.210153/page-2#post-2803944
