Heading thru New England area this June. Will be thru CT, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and New York. Wondering if anyone has any insight into smaller off the beaten trail stores with surprise selections. Hearing a lot of these stores exist with things you'd never expect to be on the shelf and want to try to hit some of them.
You won't be too far from DeCicco's stores just over the CT border into NY. Great selection and a growler line.
haha I mean... would you? I'd check out beermenus.com ,at least you can find the places that update their inventory on there...
I guess if your local and have a go to place.. I'm thinking along people who have done what I am doing.. driving thru and just happened to score and they will possibly never be back so not overly protective. Besides... the whole craft beer community seems pretty generous so was hoping for some help...
Man, you named five states, no mention of what specific parts of those states or routes or anything. The big stores people will name, and you can also find them by just searching this site. The little stores that might have something special sometimes and might not, well, they're not worth travelling out of your way to get there. I'm not aware of KBS or Cantillon or Parabola sitting on the shelf anywhere in New England if that's what you're looking for.
I think your best bet would be to have an idea of what your are looking for from each area... then perhaps those of us in those areas can point you in the right direction. Or perhaps a better thing to ask for is what is good and exclusive to the areas you are passing through? For CT, New England Brewing seems to take top honors. Especially Gandhi-bot... although it can be a pain to track down.
I know it is a big area to cover. I am hitting NEBCO on way up and then to Maine for a conference. I am going to hit all the NE specialties... like Heady, Lawsons, NEBCO, Maine Beer, Hill Farmstead.. I'll have to check my route a bit closer.. I am hoping to run into things like BCBS, Parabola etc.. I will likely just have to wing it... Thanks for some of the comments..
Go to the Bier Cellar in Portland. Exit 6b on 295 Plenty of excellent beers, and some things you wouldn't expect
