A machine learning algorithm that would suggest beers I like based on past beer ratings and other reviewers with similar tastes - or that would estimate my rating for a specific beer based on the same (ie I see a new and interesting beer and ask the app whether I'd like it or not and it tells me a best guess at my rating). I could develop it with access to the data, its not difficult and could be done using all open source software (free!). Lmk if you're interested.

Could be combined with the above picture system to provide both the overall rating and my estimated rating based on the algorithm.

One of my favorite app features that BA should consider is on an app for that other fine beverage (i.e., wine) called Vivino. Upon opening the app, it immediately brings up a camera frame, and invites you to take a photo of a bottle label. Once the photo is taken, the app automatically identifies the wine and brings up the records on that specific wine (varietal, winery, year, price range, ratings, reviews, etc.). I often use it to check a wine in the store before buying it. It's helped me avoid some potentially regrettable purchases, and has helped me to find some real gems.

I also endorse the aforementioned idea of suggesting beers based upon my likes/dislikes.

And make it a bit more slick and user friendly than the Brew Gene app, which I do use but as a last resort.

Also, if possible, a 'where to buy' or 'where to taste' feature for each beer listed.

My main two uses would be to look up reviews for beers, and to look up top rated beers by style.

I would want those functions to be fast and easy to use, and ideally the top beers by style would have an optional filter to limit the selection to beers available in my state.

BA is my favorite beer app; my go-to. I would just say thank you for this service, and I'm sure you will make whatever improvements that enhance consumer's experience. My biggest concern is that I am able to keep the data that already exists. Thanks again.

Agree 100% with 2BanAviator - BA should provide the "Vivino" capability for beer so a user can quickly sort through unfamiliar beers on the shelf or equally important, on a menu; AND then combine that with a user's personal likes and dislikes to suggest a good match from the menu or scanned list/labels.

I find the data on IBUs and user ratings and descriptions helpful. The social aspects in a beer app are questionable to me. There's probably other, better ways to connect.

My most frequent mobile use of BA is when I'm looking at a beer menu and want to find out which of the unfamiliar beers I should try. This can be a pain if there are multiple unfamiliar beers, and I pretty much never look up more than two because it takes too much time when companions are ready to order.

The app could solve this in a few ways:
    1. Know where I'm at, and pull up a current beer menu with the ratings all right there.
    2. Read a photo of the menu (or a live view from the camera) and give me all the ratings.

All of the above, but seriously, loved the old app. The fact BA is providing another app is good with me, and I'll look forward to it.

One thought, assuming you have the development manpower to do this: create a "wrapper-ized" version of a mobile web UI, like Metal is for Facebook. This could probably be done pretty quickly using a dedicated browser wrapper API, no?

I second @brentk56. I am also all for a location and mapping function. I believe it was called "nearby" in the old app. That would be awesome to have, and incorporating Google maps would be a big help as well. An easy way to read the reviews on places would be helpful. Some way to access and sort the beers I have reviewed on the site would be good, and a way to search through them quickly... like many of us I have had so many I'd like to be able to reference my list at a store to make sure I'm not buying one I didn't like.

I'd love to have a bar code scanner that links to reviews and an explanation of that brewery's packaging/best by dates.

I'd love a cellaring component with an ability to indicate when you purchased/stored the beer and when you plan on enjoying it.

A feature I want is to be able to sort top beers, either by style or in general, by location. for example I want to list top IPA's then sort by a particular city so I know where to go for a brew after work when traveling.

Click on "Beers" on your own profile. You can sort from there.

You can't put a secondary sort on them.

If you want to sort by Brewery, and then from highest to lowest, it undoes the first sort.

For instance, to be able to go to the actual brewery page and sort by those you've had and haven't had would be great.

To be able to sort them by your own rating would be even better.

Now if you had multi-tier sorting on your own page that'd be great too.

Have you checked out the Places-> Nearby? Are you just asking for the ability to do this where you input a location vs. have the GPS in the phone used? If so, that is one I would like on either the site or the app.

Nearby is available in the current website - ported from the old (now defunct) version of the app.

I get that I can sort by brewery in my profile, which is kind of useful (though I might have to scroll/page over to the brewery name), and then look at my individual ratings. My thinking is that if we could filter our own profile beers by a field (e.g., brewery name) and then sort by rating, one could easily see their preference of a particular brewery's beers that they've tried. This would also be useful for filtering by "style" and then sorting by rating and, for example, you could see what your favorite stout is that you've tried in the past.

The 2 things I would most want are the ability to quickly look up a beer and it's ratings, and the ability to see my own list of beers tried.

A scanner where we could scan a beer or bar code while in the store and get immediate ratings/reviews. That would be super tight:wink:
