As our managing editor of almost four years, Courtney hands in her red pen in order to pursue grad school. She hasn't left just yet, but we're looking for someone to pickup the pen soon to help us make a smooth transition.

BeerAdvocate (BA) is searching for a full-time, remote managing editor to join our growing team (we’ve also just created a brand-new, part-time editorial assistant position).

BA is a small company, and the managing editor role is a dynamic one. Overlapping with the role of a features editor, the position entails brainstorming and strategizing magazine and festival-guide content, commissioning and editing articles from journalists and industry experts, and collaborating with the art and web departments to bring cutting-edge articles to readers across all platforms. Additionally, the managing editor will oversee the fact-checking and proofreading of all content in the magazine and in ancillary publications (like festival guides and press releases). All BA employees telecommute. Applicants should email a cover letter, resume and two references to [email protected]. Deadline: Thursday, April 3.

The managing editor is responsible for holding BA mag to the highest journalistic standards of ethics and error-free reporting. We’re looking for someone with an appreciation of the broader picture, interested in analyzing the craft beer industry from all angles—business, technology, politics, social science and human interest. In addition to profiling the personalities behind the industry, the managing editor will be committed to finding the story no one else is telling, and reporting it objectively, without losing the wit and candor that sets BeerAdvocate apart.

    The ideal candidate will:
    • be extremely self-motivated with a proven ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
    • demonstrate a strong knowledge of the craft beer industry
    • generate fresh, creative ideas
    • be able to maintain a high level of professionalism in an often casual work environment, especially when it comes to respecting beer
    • write and communicate with humor
    • be comfortable communicating and working remotely
    • detest fluff
    Qualifications:
    • bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, journalism, English, or related field
    • at least 2 years of experience editing/assigning
    • exceptional writing and interpersonal skills, especially when it comes to working with writers on editing their stories
    • strong grasp of AP style
    • very flexible, as the work flow can vary from week to week
