So the wife is flying into Omaha tomorrow and wanted to be able to pick me up some stuff that I wouldn't be able to get normally. We live in northern Virginia. What should I tell her to look for?
I am not local to omaha, so someone closer may have better suggestions, but I am a big fan of Nebraska Brewing's IPA, nice Citra hopped beer. Looking at seekabrew.com comparison I'd also suggest Odell, Ska, Deschuttes and Tallgrass.
Thanks for the reply. Deschutes actually just came into our market, and Nebraska did a few months back. Any other ideas? Local gems? Limited distribution stuff? Thanks!
The three best beer selections are at Beertopia, StonyBrook Hyvee, and Madison Ave Hyvee (Mall of the Bluffs) in Council Bluffs, IA. Schell's just came out with a couple limited bottles. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/417/130087/ and http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/417/138996/ I know you got deschutes, but she we have Abyss on the shelves if you cant find that one. As for locals: Blue Blood -often infected avoid C.I.B. -wild ales that are yet to please me. Empyrean - good daily drinkers nothing people trade for. Infusion -has only bottled 1 release. BA RIS, from what I hear it needs age. May be able to find one at an out of the way HyVee. Lucky Bucket - OK daily drinkers nothing people trade for. Nebraska - Reserve Series bottles are good, but pricey. Cardinal Pale Ale is they best can. Schilling Bridge - OK daily drinkers nothing people trade for. Spiker Ales- They bottle 1 ok IPA. Can be hard to find fresh. Storz-often infected avoid Thunderhead - good daily drinkers nothing people trade for. Upstream - Large cork and cage bottles, often good, but rarely knock your socks off. Zipline - good daily drinkers nothing people trade for. Other brewers you may want to consider: Odell Funkwerks SKA Salt Lake (Squatters) Tallgrass You may want to call Beertopia, talk to them about styles you like. They may be willing to help you decide over the phone so your wife would only need to pick it up.
