Thanks for that info; I am surprised by Dark Lord and Cadillac Mountain(shouldn't the example of an Irish Dry stout be Irish?)

I was surprised by DL too, disappointed rather. I can see Cadillac Mt. not making the cut. Although it is a delicious beer, (and maybe should be the standard for whatever it is) it isn't very "Guinness-y".

Yeah, I expect that's why I always think of them when I think of these styles -- because I was drinking the Sam Smith beers long before the Micro Boom®.

Right, I am not saying these are the BEST beers, but Guinness is more Irish stouty than an american version of an Irish Stout.

Are these your own choices? Because I see Guinness as #1 on the BJCP list for Dry Stout.

I put the #1 style in parentheses.

Yes, but La Trappe came up with the whole "Quadrupel" concept. Just like Westmalle and their Dubbel and Tripel. I prefer Rochefort 10 over La Trappe. But I prefer La Trappe Quad over Westvleteren XII.

I know, I was being tongue in cheek. It's funny you bring up Westy 12, that's not even in my top 5 Quads/BSDA. You tried any of the Barrel Aged La Trappe Quads?

Gose - Leipzinger Gose (even though I prefer Ritterguts, I'd guess Gasthaus & Gosebrauerei Bayerischer Bahnhof is more responsible for its revival and preservation.)

Lambic - Cantillon Gueuze (I'm assuming this covers all the lambics? From the fruit stuff to geuzes or would the lambics all be broken down in more specific categories since they're so different? Either way, Cantillon has been around for over a century and their Geuze is the quintessential unfruity lambic blend in my opinion.)

Westy 12 is not in my Top 10 Quads/BSDA. Haven't tried any BA La Trappe, because of the scary price tag for a small bottle.

Witbier would have to be Hoegaarden.

Nope. Based on the OP question, Hoegaarden is closer because it revived the style (when Celis owned the brewery), but it was a style much older than Hoegaarden, so I really don't know who brewed the original.

Compared to Gorden Biersch's Märzen and Schell's Firebrick, Sam Adams doesn't hit the mark. A Vienna should taste like a lighter, softer Märzen; malt breadiness and clean, Sam Adams' yeast background stunts it.
