Is there anywhere that has Berliner Weisse's in San Diego? Its a style I have always wanted to try and never had the opportunity.
My only guess would be to look out for bottles of Bruery Hottenroth...I saw them in Whole Foods stores as of yesterday up here in LA.
Good to know, thanks. saw it and was texting my friend who lives right by that place to ask him about but he hadn't tried it either.
Stone World Bistro & Gardens and Hamiltons Tavern have Bear Republic Tartare on per taphunter... I cannot speak to accuracy, so would call ahead to confirm. I'd be there in a flash if I were in the area.
I want to second (or third) Black Market 1945. It's excellent, and the brewery is in Temecula, just north of SD, so I think it should be easy to get somewhere in the SD area. Also, the Prof Fritz Briem 1809 (German, so not local; also, I think this is what was meant by 'Ken Fritz' above) is top-notch, one of the best you can find. Definitely seek it out if you're trying the style for the first time.
It's pretty outstanding, but I'm pretty sure it's a seasonal release, so it's actually not that easy to get. I think they release it around this time, though, so it should be pretty widely available soon. But last year I remember it coming and going fairly quickly.
Yeah, at it's price point, Black Market 1945 is a must. Basically, it's the antithesis of East Bayliner Weisse.
