Yes I've enjoyed this one! For me it was a solid stout, but I didn't get a lot of maple (maybe my palate isn't sensitive enough).

I may be mistaken but I don't think most maple-flavored beers use maple syrup as the primary source of fermentable sugars, but rather as an adjunct after fermentation. Alternatively, some beers like CBS and Derivation capture the maple flavor (to great effect!) not by adding maple syrup but instead aging the beer in barrels that contained maple syrup.

Not sure if this is National or not, but we get a good amount of Sierra Nevada here in St. Louis and I've never seen it, so I am guessing no.

I remember reading it somewhere else on here that employees were given one but were told they weren't allowed to trade or sell it and it was a punishable offense.

Just to comment on your list, of the ones I've had:
CBS was amazing. Tons of maple and chocolate with the perfect amount of bourbon.
Black maple was a bit underwhelming. Decent bourbon flavor but not much maple and really thin.
MBCP also had very little maple
Maple fayston probably had the least maple of the 4

I suggest revisiting this one. Last time I had it the maple had a strong presence. Its available right now according to the site, I think I may stop by today actually

mjshearer1's No Rules review indicates that they did add actual maple syrup, I had a friend tell me that when they first tapped it a few months ago the maple syrup addition was in the menu description. @mjshearer1 is this where you got the specifics you laid out in your review? Sure tastes like maple syrup's been added.

Jackie O's Bourbon Barrel Black Maple- Best BA Maple stout in my opinion

Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter- Flavor Bomb

14th star Maple Breakfast stout- Kind of thin but great drinkability, can easily crush multiple cans of this

Yep. I confirmed it with one of the managers at Perrin who's a friend of mine. They added the maple syrup post barrel. The specifics I have in there were all the ingredients that they confirmed.

Seems like it would have been listed on the label, is that the same with the coffee then too?

Sigh...out of all of the beers mentioned so far, the only one I've even seen is Sierra Nevada Maple Stout

Thanks for all the input; tremendous recommendations! We had a blind maple stout/porter tasting Saturday with 8 beers and 5 participants so I thought I would share our results. The only beer anyone had tasted previously was Derivation blend #1 (4 of 5 participants). There was pretty good consensus regarding ranking:

    1. Side Project Derivation blend #1
    2. Treehouse Good Morning
    3. Jackie O's BBBM
    4. Hill Farmstead Beyond Good and Evil
    5. Lawson's Maple BA Fayston Maple Stout
    6. Dark Horse 6 pairs of legs
    7. Dark Horse 3 pairs of legs
    8. Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Coffee Porter

Personally, I had Beyond Good and Evil a little higher and others had Lawson's a bit lower, but this was the average. Beyond Good and Evil was definitely the sweetest of the group (and strongest maple flavor I would say), and it was overly sweet for some. Derivation and Good Morning were unanimous at 1 and 2 respectively. Jackie O's BBBM was very impressive.

We didn't have a CBS for the tasting, but having had it several times on draft, I'd have difficulty deciding between it and Derivation for the best overall.

    Thanks again fellow BAs!

I received one of these recently and am quite excited to try it when the weather cools. I don't get to purchase many Canadian beers.

fresh Beyond Good & Evil - would not want it now.

KBBS was also amazing - but the adjuncts were so subtle in BG&E i think it wins.
