My favorite so far by far is the Pumpkin Pie De Brett from Almanac. So, anyone else have any really good pumpkin sours recently? I understand that it is far from being described as a popular sub-style of sour but I for the most part enjoy them. Definitely not a style that one sees on the shelf that often as well, which is another reason why I am asking...

I don't think this is necessarily a sour, but Zebulon, one of Western North Carolina's newer breweries, recently released a 'spice free' pumpkin beer made with charred pumpkins.

I know this goes against your question about pumpkin sours, but I thought I would throw this out there.

You've piqued my curiosity. I am going to pick up a Boulevard Funky Pumpkin the next time I see it.

I thought SA Pumpkin Batch was excellent. It was a saison brewed with pumpkin and spices. Nice body and sweetness from the pumpkin, and the spices worked nicely with the yeast character. RIP. :slight_frown:

Only one I've ever had was Funky Pumpkin, it was "aight". My bro-in-law is sitting on a Funkier Pumpkin, will have to see how he likes that one.

I'll grab that one if I see it . Hopefully it will be more like I was expecting last year when I got their Pumpkin Sour , which didn't really conjure up any pumpkin spice quality at all .

While not classified as a sour, Roadsmary's Baby by Two Roads had some funk and tart going on from the Rum Barrel aging. Interesting quaff and much better than the ubiquitous offerings from Shipyard and Sam Adams.

FYI, I got no spice quality on it this year, just tons of brett and a faint hint of pumpkin. Sounds like what you experienced last year.

I know you wont be able to find this unless you are local, but in case any of you are...I stopped at Jack's Abby yesterday and they had a Sour Pumpkin version of Smoke and Dagger that was absolutely amazing.

I tasted a Birds Fly South Sour Pumpkin and Boulevard Funky Pumpkin for the first time last week...two of the most vile concoctions I've ever encountered

I'm going to throw in another vote for Boulevard Funky Pumpkin. It's good, but in a strange way that I can't really describe due to the oddity of it to begin with. I still haven't had the Funkier Pumpkin, but I'll pick one up next time I'm out if there's still any around.

I recently tried a 2015 Cascade Pumpkin Smash and it was one of the more complex tasting beers I've had between the flavors and sour, pumpkin, spice, sweet, and savory. Wicked Weed Pompoen is a close second though.

Timmerman's Pumpkin Lambiscus looked interesting. I've been told it's OK, but I never pulled the trigger.

I thought Pompoen was excellent as well. The rum barrel treatment played well and all of the intended notes were incredibly well balanced. I haven't compared it to another pumpkin sour, but intend to for sure.

That review is dead on. It's very ok. Nothing more.
