I'm heading to the beehive state tomorrow and I'm not sure about good beers in Utah... Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
You're certain to find plenty of good beers there now, but I'll toss in a recommendation for Uinta's Hop Nosh if you've never had it. It's an elite IPA that's up there with the best in the country. In fact, lots of their beers are really good and they're in bottles/cans so you can bring some back.
Squatters in SLC is worth a visit. It has been awhile since I've been there, but they had some awesome beers we never get distributed in Denver; primarily, Fifth Element. Definitely get that if you find it. Also, a fan of Beerhive and Beer Bar.
RedRock has some nice stuff as well. Elephino DIPA & Drioma Imp Stout are worth a try. If you like lagers Bohemian Brewing specializes in old world lagers. Their Altbier and Dortmunder are quite nice. The specialty beer bars in SLC are a good one stop shop for local stuff; if you want to do as much damage as possible in one place. The Bayou, Beerhive and Beer Bar are your best bets in that regard. Here's a link that has most of the new stuff that you may want to look for. Prost! http://utahbeer.blogspot.com/?m=1
For the benefit of anyone who may consult this thread later, Epic Brewing Company's Big Bad Baptist can only be directly purchased from their brewery at 825 South State Street (the state liquor store doesn't carry it) and is currently a hefty $11.99 for a 651 ml bottle. But check these reviews: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/22893/73618/
John, thanks for all of the session beers from UT you've sent me over the years. Way more hits than misses and that's why I consider UT as the session beer mecca of the US. Forced to. Yes. Rose to the occasion....YES!
My pleasure Bill! Thanks for all the brews you sent my way (Westys, J.W. Lees, Alaskan Smoked Porters, and Grand Tetons) Cheers!
