What would they be ticking? I wasn't aware German beers ever showed up in the top 100.

Do you mean this one, the Saphir Weisse? Or the "other" one listed on BA? Because the Saphir is at my local.

Andech's makes arguably my favorite bottled hefeweizen, from the source I imagine it's excellent.

I know tickers that aren't just gunning for the top beers, but are just going for as many unusual beers as possible. I'm guilty of this at times, I'll admit it

The Mahr's weisse I like is the normal one. I think it might also be the same as the "Festtags" Weisse but I'm not certain. The Saphir is okay, too...but it's very different. A little like the MG from Schneider.
Beyond the Mahr's, I really like the ones from HB, Andechs, Weihenstephaner, and even the common imports from Franziskaner and Paulaner. Locally, the one we get from Dry Dock is up there with some German ones.

The normal and the Festtags are two different beers. Explored/explained here:

    http://bierdestages.de/mahrs-braeubamberg-weisse-nr-1220/

Either way, both are good. But the "banana cream pie" is the normal Weisse (not sure if it's exported here).

It's ok you get a pass. You're not just ticking the highly rated beers, I assume you're just trying as many great beers as possible from reliable sources. Which is about having great beer, not a contest. Not to mention you're one of the more knowledgeable members of this site.

We have identical tastes. Those are also my favorites, and I also agree even the Franziskaner and Paulaner are excellent. I'll choose any of these over most American versions with the exception of Troegs Dreamweaver Wheat.

I used to lump Kellerweis in there, but I feel it's fallen off the last couple years. It looks off in the glass as well. I've had it both draft and bottle too. The first year it came out I loved it, I'm still willing to try it again though.

Vitus is great but it's available everywhere, even where I am in the sticks of South Korea. I bought one yesterday in fact. I was thinking there must be tons of great stuff in Germany that doesn't get exported. Sorry, my thread title is misleading.

So you wanna see what doesn't get outside Germany? Look at this website from Biershop-Bayern, where you can get beers shipped to you in England, which is where you are, right?... (oops read you're in Korea, but you might want to change your location in your BA profile.) They focus on only beers from Bayern. Another I like whose site is in German only is Bierzwerg, who specialise in small, independent brewers from all around Germany. I'm sure you'll find one you haven't seen before.

God, that Vitus picture is making me thirsty. Thanks for the links boddhitree. I'll be back in England this summer but I hope to stop by Germany on my way home.

Well, I'm glad they export to South Korea! Of course, I'd be much happier if they could find a way to "export" some of it to Heidelberg... Just got back from a 3-week visit to my hometown in Texas, and I swear that the gas station around the corner had a better selection of German beers than my local Getränkemarkt. But that is a discussion for a different thread...

As far as the posted question goes, for wheat beers that might not make it out of Germany, I would recommend the Ayinger, Flötzinger, Meinel, and Unertl Gourmet. All are available at the Biershop Bayern (as Herr boddhitree suggested). I am sure there are others of quality on that page, but those are 4 that I personally find to be quite good. Enjoy!

Yes. I'm here if you need me.

A new Edeka Scheck-In opened along the 5 line (Stadtbucherei, between Bismarkplatz and the Hbf). They mostly have the usual suspects but a few goodies as well. Not sure it's worth the €2,40 ticket but if you happen to be out that way...

Edit because I think I got the stop wrong...

Ayinger exports their hefeweizen to the US.

    Cheers!

Of course, the difference is the selection in your local Getränkemarkt is probably fresh.
