I was recently at a terrific beer bar in upstate NY where I ordered a Sculpin IPA. I noticed another IPA on tap and the bar tender gave me a sample glass of Limbo IPA. After drinking my Sculpin, the Limbo had an extreme alcohol forward flavor. I was surprised when the bar tender told me the Limbo was 7.5%, as opposed the the 7% with the Sculpin. Perhaps it was the "not cleansing the palate" thing, but Limbo drank more like a 9.5%. What's the booziest single IPA's you've had, yet enjoyed them? BTW, I had another Sculpin, then a Limbo with my dinner. Luckily, I had my wife do the driving.

I didn't realize an IPA could come across as boozy. Seems to me that's either a weaker double or a flaw.

Lagunitas Waldo's Special was fairly boozy, but still really delicious. It mostly hid the alcohol well, but some of it still crept through.

I'm with @chrisjws - boozy is not a term I associate with IPAs, unless it was barrel-aged, but that's unusual - I've had barrel-aged DIPAs and tripels, but I'm drawing a blank re: IPAs. Usually once you break that 8% abv plane, you're talking DIPA not IPA. And that being said, Doom was the only DIPA I can recall that had a booziness to it.

I cant think of any IPA's I consider boozy. There are a ton of doubles that I find boozy but that comes with the territory.

Molotov Cocktail... and not just because of the ABV. It felt like I was drinking hop liqueur.

I really don't like boozy ipas - don't see the point. All the hop & malt aroma is overpowered.

It's a 10.5% DIPA (TIPA according to OH). I think OP is looking for single IPAs

Edit - to answer the OP - struggling to think of a single IPA that was too boozy. Plenty of boozy doubles, but not singles

120 Minute IPA is extremely boozy, and for good reason. I feel like the version I just had was 21% or so.

Exactly what first came to mind for me as well. I thought the alcohol was hidden fairly well at non-fridge temperatures, but certainly felt it halfway through the bomber.
