Dale, FWIW I personally do not necessarily equate that descriptive text as being "better" but instead it equates to being different. After tasting the reformulated Boston Lager it may be 'better' for my palate but I have no doubt that other beer consumers will think differently.

    Cheers!

Well, I find the entire topic interesting. As often noted (maybe in that Paste article, too - I mean, I read it a coupla hours ago, I can't be expected to remember it now!) beer recipes are constantly changing but the convention in the brewing industry - unlike laundry detergents that are NEW AND IMPROVED! - is usually not to admit it and play up to the point of deception their age-old product - sometimes by suggesting a founding date of the company equals the beer's origin (Pabst's 1844, Stella Artois' 1366, Adolph Coors' 1873), etc.

Funny, too, how the craft geekery accepts variation in the taste of beers, whether real or imagined, from batch to batch or, sometimes even from bottle to bottle within a single sixpack.

So perhaps BBC's test marketing in NYS is testing not so much the change of recipe or process - oops, I mean "remastering" - but to find how customers react to the labeling of it being changed. IF they find acceptance of it in the general marketplace (not here on BA tho' :open_mouth:) perhaps they new process will be adopted for all SABL without such labeling? Or, conversely, if they find an uptick in repeat sales, perhaps they'll go with the "Remastered" labeling?

Wait a minute, am I reading a conspiracy theory between your lines?:thinking_face:

Well, the reason I don't believe in most* conspiracy theories is, having been around humans all my life, I don't think a secret can be kept between two people much less many more. What might seem to be secretive on BBC's part is likely just having no idea what to do about their loss of "beer" market share. I mean, literally, hundreds of US brewers went through that and failed completely.

Boston's at least got the happy "problem" of increasing their non-beer market share and barrelage - 7.3M bbl. - not too shabby. I mean, it likely bothers Jim Koch but at his Boston bank he can hardly even feel the rotating in the graves of Louis Koch and his other ancestor-brewers.:grimacing:

    * EDIT - Hey, I forgot what I was gonna to write for that asterisk after "most".

Well, did I really "forget" or am I too afraid to post it? :open_mouth:

Aw, damn - am I going to have to wander through the local cemeteries looking for an infant's grave so I can change "Jess Kidden's" social security number - again?

I can tell you don't watch enough mystery movies or TV -- go to the library and look up old newspaper obituaries!

Those microfilm readers give me motion sickness/headaches - and I could always use the exercise (plus you find some cool headstones, too. About that time in life when the research becomes "personal": "Hey, that's cool!" or "UGG-LEE"...).

Since we are discussing the topic of "recipe" have you found any good recipes during your excursions to cemeteries?

    Ever
One thing I believe is true he’s been right with most things he’s touched. Except the Cherry Wheat was it? Could have left that one alone, the lines too vast with too many shitty beers on the list. If the market studies drive perhaps a Boston Lager, then perhaps in cursive remastered smaller below it, so it’s new but ties to its roots. Guys a billionaire so he’s been right a lot.

Beer drinkers tend to be loyal, I don’t think this applies to us on Ba, but we are surely 4-5%or less of the beer word who’s content to float. Tge rest are damn loyal, be it Bud, or PBR whatever, they like it like it is. Not sure how BL drinkers accept it, it’s a crossover kinda beer though, it works in both worlds. I just think it’s too sweet, funny I used to call it bitter in 1945-85 give or take.

New Years goal should have been to be a better proof reader, it’s a bad habit.

And perhaps you might enjoy drinking the remastered Boston Lager since it is reportedly less sweet.

    Cheers!

If they adopt it perhaps, I did like their Boston Stock Ale though.

Well, it is 'adopted' now in New York state. Do you have any friends/family in New York that would be willing to send you come of the remastered Boston Lager?

    Cheers!

Nope, none. So it went from market study to a shelf beer?

Well, they are test marketing these beers in New York state so within the context of beer retailers in New York it is a shelf beer.

    Cheers!

Ok, so we’ll see. That’s a tough market, wonder why they didn’t stay closer to home. Remastered vs the Haze craze, lol.

Because testing the beer in a "tough market" is the best way to determine customer acceptance?

I wish they would throw both on at the tap rooms here in Boston so I could try both side-by-side. I am not ashamed to admit I really enjoy the “old” version and want to try the remastered one.
