    Hello all-

After trying to add the 3 Bourbon County Easter Eggs to the database (Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey, Heaven Hill) I noticed that they were deleted, and there's a notation on the main page for BCBS that the Easter Egg beers are included in the main listing.

I would like to respectfully disagree with this take. Goose Island seemingly intended this surprise release to highlight how each individual single barrel made for a unique take on the classic stout versus the fully blended approach in the regular Bourbon County.

I tried all 3 beers with a group of friends recently, and it was pretty remarkable how each version was different than the rest. Buffalo Trace had this killer barrel spice and heightened bourbon character, much more than how Bourbon County normally tastes. Wild Turkey seemed sweeter, and smoother, without that heavier hit of spice, while Heaven Hill seemed to combine the best qualities of the previous two beers.

The Bourbon County Brand Stout Reserve beers get separate listings. I understand that they are specifically marketed under a different subseries than the main BCBS line, but at their heart, they are different takes on the main Bourbon County base in different, interesting barrels than the usual.

I'd like to hear the argument for just combining the listings of the Easter Eggs and regular Bourbon County, as I really do believe the beers are intended to stand on their own.

    Thanks!

I’m with you brother. The beers were intended to stand on their own just like any other series. I think they should have separate listings just like all the other beers that are brewed under the same name but different beers as part of a series.

Counter point - if they wanted them to stand on their own, then why not release them as separate beers? They were all released under the regular BCBS label, unlike the other single barrel expressions that GI releases with a different name/label.

Fair enough. It’s actually labeling incompetence by them to that end because if they didn’t want them to stand as separate beers why even denote separate barrels?

Probably for the same reason we don’t keep individual entries for all of the Stone “Enjoy By” series….it just gets out of hand

They were indeed released under the regular BCBS series, but with clear markings on the date code (BT, WT, or HH) showing that they were unique beers. I think, personally, this is enough to differentiate them.

There have been plenty of times where a new beer has relatively the same label, with the same info, but some sort of small differentiation showing it was a different beer. A good example of it would be the Eclipse series with all the different wax colors. They all have basically the same label, it's just the wax that differentiates it.

Yeah I would ageee with this. And god knows GI doesn’t have a problem marketing different iterations of a similar beer.

On the other hand, every year there are BCBS bottles with clearly marked different date codes and different ABVs (presumably different blends) - should each of those have their own entry? You don't have to look far on here come December to see people saying that one date code is better than another.

I’d say just skip the new ones that are flash pasteurized and find the good oldies before 2015 (imo).

BCS 12’ is amazing (not to be off topic).

The Easter eggs were just a neat little something to get excited about. It’d be cool if they used better barrels like Transient Artisan (imho) not many (if anyone) has better barrels than them. The main reason they used what they used is because they needed roughly 30 barrels of each to be able to fill the order (if I remember correctly, I was a bit buzzed at the time). I know I might be slightly rambling but yeah just trying to you fill you folks in.

I had a conversation with Keith the head brewer and suggested they use single barrels from a marketing standpoint, it appears they went with it. That reminds me, he said he’s got me on a beer haha.

    Cheers

2012 is historically my favorite vintage, in its prime it was so phenomenal.

Is there any chance at swaying the current moderator opinion on this one?

Alright @GreesyFizeek (and @REVZEB and any other interested parties) so after some discussion, with @Todd we decided to bring back the Easter Egg bottles as individual listings on BA. By "bring back", I mean that I actually went in and restored the original listings, so anyone who had already rated or reviewed one of the Easter Egg bottles had their review/rating restored under the individual listings.

    The beer listings are here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1146/87514/

Help me out though - I've got to add some notes for each of these and since they were never formally marketed or listed, there isn't an easy description to pull from. I typed up the following but would appreciate anyone's input on the notes.
