Hey @VikeMan, whenever you get around to making an update, can you add a couple rows to the post boil and dry hop lines? Maybe even steal them from the grain and boil hop rows to keep it looking the same on the screen. Thanks again for your work.

Turns out in all my infinite wisdom, I had originally downloaded it to google drive and had been using it from there. I downloaded it from my drive and the macros didn't work in excel. It dawned on me that it might have downloaded differently than the original. I redownloaded the original file straight to excel and the scale button works just fine. I apologize for my goof. Thank you so much for you help and for the cipher!

@VikeMan you might already be aware, but the Comment feature in Excel has changed in Office 365 and there is now a difference between threaded comments and notes. I first noticed it this morning when selecting 'Review' in the menu bar and am not sure when the change was implemented.
Edit > > Other info about the change at MrExcel.

I’m guessing protection will prevent threading, but just thought I’d mention it in case creating BrewCipher in a previous version of Excel presents unexpected behavior in more current versions like Office 365, which automatically updates.

I haven't seen what Office 365 (build 1810 or later) does with BrewCipher's comments. I would hope that it would simply show them as "Notes." But even if it treats them as the new style comments, they should be uneditable (via sheet protection), so would function the same way (except for a different color triangle in the cell corner). Have you opened BrewCipher to see if the comments/notes look different?

For my part, BrewCipher will continue to be "compiled" (not really compiled, but you get the idea) through the same torturous backward route it always has been, to ensure compatibility with old programs and so as to not break Apache OpenOffice.

Opening BC in Office 365, comments display with the familiar red triangle. So it appears that Office 365 is fine with the current delivered version of BC in that respect. Info section says:
    Compatibility Mode
Some new features are disabled to prevent problems when working with previous versions of Office. Converting this file will enable these features, but may result in layout changes.

ETA: I have not and will not, unless instructed, attempted to "Convert" the file.
2nd ETA: Changed my mind and will convert a dummy file.
    3rd Edit below.

    Dialogue box when converting:
This action converts the workbook to the current file format, which allows you to use all of the new features of Excel, and it reduces the file size.
The original file will be deleted and cannot be restored after this conversion.
    “OK”
    Dialogue box:
The workbook conversion to the current format completer successfully. To use the new and enhanced features of the current file format, you must close and reopen the workbook. Do you want to close and reopen?
    “Yes”

Upon reopening, rec’d and selected the obligatory “Enable Content” option.
No apparent change in the comment (or maybe now notes?) flags. Still the red triangle.

Thanks for the check. The red triangles would seem to indicate that 365 treats older versions' comments as new version notes, which should cause no problems.

Hey @VikeMan, on your bottle priming calculation, is the temperature value the current temp or average fermentation temperature? Thanks!

This is the temperature of your beer at the end of active fermentation, or the temperature at bottling, whichever is higher. (C&P'd from the box that pops up when you hover over the little triangle in the corner of the cell.)

So I have a question about the alternate abv... I’ve seen you address it generally in another post but I recently brewed an imperial stout that went from 1.096 to 1.030 which calculates as 8.7% for traditional and 9.6% for alternate. I know you’ve said that the traditional is probably more accurate but I’m just wondering (since I’m planning on labeling the bottles and giving them to people) would you suggest maybe labeling as say 9.0% just so I don’t under advertise a beer that other people will be drinking? Thanks!

Personally, I would call it 8.7%. But it's really up to you. If you feel more comfortable estimating higher, go for it.

I have always had issues hitting my mash temp. I've been using a "sorta" brew-in-a-bag technique. After a couple of years doing this, I got tired of this method and converted my 5-gal igloo cooler into a proper mash tun with a SS braid and batch sparging.

Not knowing how using the cooler as a mash tun would affect my strike temp, I set all the brew house parameters to their defaults, and for the first time, I nailed my strike temp. I initially over-estimated my efficiency at 75%, and by beer was several points down on OG. I really wound up around 70%. I can't wait to see what happens with my next brew day after I get my efficiency dialed in a little better,

The only issue I had was in water management; I ended up with almost exactly 1 gallon too much after sparging, which caused me to extend my boil time. In trying to figure out where the extra gallon came from, I saw that I had set the mash tun dead space to,,,, 1 gallon. DOH! I had set it earlier when I was playing with a larger rectangular cooler and never re-set it. Lesson learned.

Hats off to Vikeman for an excellent tool!
