Hello Everyone, I want to know if I can travel with beer and how much. I live in NJ and want a beer that is only made in Florida. I would like to get a keg of it but I don't know what's allowed on the plane. Also, is shipping it back home an option? If so, how does one go about shipping kegs of beer?
good luck bringing a keg home! the baggage fees alone for the weight of that thing would be more than the plane ticket itself! Stick with bottles and cans and you'll be fine.
As far as a carry-on, there is a 3-4oz. Limit. I've snuck 4.6oz tubes of toothpaste. However, a sixtel may be pushing it.
Your best bet would be to drive, not fly. Don't think the airlines would accept the keg even if you wanted to pay for the baggage fees, and a shipping company like FedEx/UPS would most likely reject it since it's a pressurized container that has serious damage capabilities of compromised. Luckily the trip from NJ to FL isn't too bad, and if you take a truck, you can bring back more than one!
a keg?!? good luck sir as I am fairly certain that amount might not be allowed. Using a checked bag to fill with beer is always an option I have done in the past, but not a kegs worth... Fly Southwest and you get a checked bag for free. Fill with beer, package properly, enjoy beer when you land!
You can put as much alcohol as you want in your checked baggage. I went to Vermont and brought back a case of Heady and 6 HF growlers in two checked suitcases. Both were actually searched by TSA, but nothing confiscated and no other issues whatsoever. A keg might be a whole other story though just in terms of weight and practicality.
