Heading to Cape Cod (Yarmouth) for Labor Day weekend-ish. Just wondering what's worth checking out for beer, food, etc.? I'm a VT/W. MA guy so I have pretty limited knowledge of the area and selection.

    Thanks!

We were in Chatham earlier this month for a week. Stopped at Barnstable on the way down. Cool spot and solid beer. Tasters are a bit expensive, but my wife just had two that I tried a bit of since I was driving, so it was a cheap stop. Grabbed a four pack of their IPA; again pricey but it's the Cape. Place was kid-friendly. Yelp said dog friendly, but apparently that's just outside.

Devil's Purse is good; small space, but dog friendly (including inside). We've stopped there the last 3 times, so skipped it this trip. Most places have at least one good option on draft, whether it's Devil's Purse, Wormtown, or Night Shift.

The Cape isn't a beer destination of course, but along the lines of another current thread about best NE beer experiences, drinking a beer on the beach watching the sunset is pretty hard to beat.

Burke's Alewerks in Hanover on the way down or back (Exit 13, right off the highway)

Devil's Purse is nice but went there last year and they were still working off porta potties in the tap room. They're like five years old. I found that offputting.

I thought the beer at Hog Island was pretty good, and they have a nice outdoor space if it's not too hot.

Have to admit that I find the ports potties very odd, too. I say that to myself or my kids every time I’m there.

Check out the BBC on Main Street in Hyannis. Otto the beer manager there usually has killer stuff on tap, only BBC that doesnt have to carry the mandated beers all the others do. He's had Widowmaker, Night Shift, Fiddlehead, Toppling Goliath, Proclamation and more all on this week

Seconded. Was there a couple weeks back and the list was really good. Only downside was that they pour nothing smaller than 16 oz. (or so I was told), and a lot of the options were high ABV.

Others have covered all the places on the Cape proper I think, but assuming you're coming down route 3 it's an easy and quick pit stop to check out Mayflower in Plymouth on your way down.

They have a really nice, mellow, taproom with cheap growlers and often some cans that aren't very available at stores to go.

Came here to say this. Hit up Hog Island early this summer, and it was definitely a cool spot to hang out with lots of games, food and depending on timing, live music.

If you're coming down Route 3, stop off exit 10 in Kingston at Empire Wine and Spirits. Im beer manager there can guide you to some cool cans!

I always hit moonshine for cans. Great selection.

Check out their new store in Harwich. Probably the best can selection on the Cape.

Probably the most expensive store I've ever been in, but the selection is vast

Thanks for all of the recommendations folks - stopped by cape cod beer, which was enjoyable, along with the BBC in Hyannis. Food was kinda generic but the tap list was good for the area. Def not a beer mecca, but had some nice malty brews, hog island was decent as well.

probably how I'd sum up the (beer related portions of) trip:

What's the haps with beer on the Cape this summer? Heading to Chatham for a week toward the end of July. Last year we stopped at Barnstable and Devil's Purse on the way from Boston to grab some cans for the beach. Anything new and noteworthy? Thank you!
