Speaking of opening taprooms and lagers - Great Central Brewing Co. is opening their taproom on August 18th.

    Details here

Their lagers are very good - especially the helles and the helles bock. Well worth checking out if you're a lager fan.

If you are nearby Revolution, they've brewed up a absolute beauty. Its a vienna lager called Work Dreams.

Also should mention that Firestone Walker Lager is probably the best helles i've had, and certainly the best american version

First time drinking You Never Take Me Anywhere Nice and really enjoying it. It's going to be ideal with the heat coming this weekend.

I just picked up a 6 pack of this a half hour ago and was pretty much thinking the same thing re: heat this weekend. Drinking my first bottle now. Very good beer!

Off Color's is both maltier and hoppier. I think I preferred the subtlety and the greater depth/complexity of malt in the NG offering, but they're both excellent beers. Off Color's is, in my opinion, very similar to Tooth and Claw (unsurprising as I'm sure it's the same beer just unfiltered), so if you enjoy that profile, you'll like You Never Take Me Anywhere Nice.

Midnight Pig should get a shout out in here.

Won a gold medal for their Vienna lager AND their dopplebock in the last year. Both are excellent, but Apocalyptinator is truly the best dopplebock I’ve had besides Celebrator. I need to put those two against each other for some science.

Regardless, if you’re a lager fan, buy some midnight pig. They make a nice Pilsner too. They also make a barrel aged Oreo stout that people are freaking out about. They did it 4 or 5 years ago way before pastry stout was a thing. And now they’ve packaged it it and it’s low key awesome

    Alright, shoutout over/

Tried a Dovetail lager for the first time a few days ago, and all I can say is that it's what lagers should have been all our lives instead of the macrobrew lagers most of us started out with. No comparison. I skipped it in the past because there was always something more "interesting" to drink, but I won't skip it in the future.

I was thinking this morning how I wish Dovetail Lager was available in cans. a few 4 packs of tallboys would be great for this week

Figured this was worth dusting off this thread - it looks like Spiteful brewed a černý ležák and canned it!

Does anyone know if Dovetail makes it out to Binny's in Algonquin?

If not, should be soon. They announced last week they've partnered with Windy City for area distribution.

I don’t think they make enough beer for these cans to become “shelfies” quite yet. Not even sure they make enough to fulfill the big demands of a company like Binnys.

Maybe once everyone ticks them on untappd cuz “they heard lagers can be good” (and rates it a 3.25) maybe the cans will last longer on the shelves.

    *eye twitches involuntarily*

I forget if anyone (including myself) has mentioned it here, but I really enjoyed Cruz Blanca's Mexican lager, and even places like Whole Foods get it, so it should be an easy one to pick up whenever.

    Gonna be a great summer.

I was looking for some Dovetail at the Elmwood Park Binny's. No dice, so I left with a 4-pack of Hopewell's Lil Buddy. Cans totally look like a kids' drink, so much so that the toddler kept saying "But I want thaaaaaaaaaaaat one!" at breakfast today.

Is that an AAL? Really wish they'd can their Vienna lager.
