'Hopefully' heading to South America later this year - Any insights to the brewery/beer scene in either Santiago or Valparaiso?

Hi there, I visited both cities on honeymoon in 2016. Not the best opportunity to pursue beer related things, but nevertheless a worthwhile experience. There is a big German influence on south American brewing and the two brands that I experienced most in Chile were Kross and Kuntsmann. They both do dark beers but also lighter styles. There are also other local lager brands like Austral and Mestra and Estrella Damm is common. Kross seems to be the biggest local craft brewery, and I think that they have a venue somewhere but not sure where. As for venues, no pubs as we know them in Australia but lots of bars, cafes, etc. On the northside of the Mapocho River (it is really a drain) there are a number of universities and a number of cheaper, big beer barns and bbq places. They look like fun, but I didn't get a chance to try them out. In Valparaiso the only place I could recommend is the casino near the beach. Not really a beer place but it has a feel like something out of the Godfather (really cool) and sells beer. Enjoy!

The wife and I visited Santiago about ten years ago, the beer scene was pretty limited then but I'm sure things have changed. The Chilean cocktail of choice there was a Pisco Sour, very tasty and recommend trying one. We were there over St Patricks day, and an Irish Pub opened early for us when we showed up early afternoon at the same time about 10 people who worked at the US Embassy in Santiago showed up as well seeking an Irish bar for St. Pettys day. Had a great time with them. looks like it's till there, had a great happy hour and the exchange rate at the time had a my wife and laughing at how cheap our tab was.

I only spent one night in Santiago on our trip to Chile/Argentina in late 2019/early 2020. Our hotel was near the Costanera Center, so we ate dinner and had beers at this place that I added to the BA database with a review: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/58713/
