Hey all, taking my 17 year old son to visit Ohio State next Wednesday. Have to make it a one day trip and we will be in the car about 7 hours that day so I need 2 really good stops for singles, a good 6 pack spot with local selection, and maybe a recommendation on a place to eat that a picky kid would like lol. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks ahead of time for any input. I did try to research a bit by myself but I am pulling 70 hour weeks right now so not much time to do that in. Thanks again for any help.
If you have time, I'd hit the North Market. There are lots of eating options and they have a bottle shop, so you can tick two boxes with one stop. As far as other bottle shops, I'd hit Weiland's (you can also hit Palmer's which is very close by as well) and Kenny Road Market.
To save time, Crafted Drafts is a great spot for both singles and 6 packs with local options. It's decently close to Easton, so there are lots of different food options.
Pies and Pints might be a good spot to stop for food. Their pizza is great and they have a pretty solid draft list. North Market is really cool, but I wouldn't go there on a time restriction. There is too much to do/enjoy there and I don't think it's the easiest spot to go in to the bottle shop for some quick bottles.
If you're near the campus, Weiland's and Palmer's will be the best bottle shops. Personally, I prefer Crafted Drafts, but it would be out of the way (but they have better 6pk selection). This thread is recent and covers similar ground. http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/columbus-visit.409907/
No doubt on Pies and Pints. Their Pesto pizza is the best pizza I've ever had, period. First time I had a pie that I wanted to eat the crust first. What I'd do is hit up Weiland's, then take 71 North to Morse Rd, and head over to Easton to the Pies and Pints there. From there, I'd go over to Crafted Drafts, and then it's a short hop back to 270 to head back home. That would get you 2 of the best selections, period, plus a fantastic place to eat. If that won't work for food, there's plenty of stuff there at Easton or right off Morse Rd.
Dude if you're pressed for time just take the North Market/Barrel and Bottle + Palmers/Weiland's route. Driving all over town plus Easton and Gahanna isn't very efficient. On a Wednesday parking at North Market shouldn't be hard and it's close to OSU. After Weiland's you're only a mile or less in either direction from getting back on 71. North Market isn't a trap to me - it's mostly food in there so I don't find it particularly distracting. If you come early enough go upstairs for Hot Chicken Takeover and everyone will be happy.
