    Lovely stuff. An old story says the size of the pasty was to be the same size as the consumers foot. Glad I'm a 10.

    I love a good pasty. I fell in love with them during my stay in Arizona, of all places. I'd highly recommend Cornish Pasty Co. to anyone who happens to find themselves in the Phoenix metro area. Great stuff.

    Wow, I never heard that one. If that's the case, glad I'm a 13! I see you're from PA. any local recommendations for a good Pasty?

    The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is Pasty land. This is a staple of Yooper cuisine. Brought to the UP by the Cornish to work in the copper mines. Then adopted by other ethnicity's that immigrated to the area for mine work.

    Of course my Grandmother makes the best pasties, but your did look pretty good Mr. Paxton, thanks for sharing your take.

    Don't forget all of those iron mines -- my (Finn) great grandfather carried many a pasty underground! :wink:

    Yeah, sorry to be a hater, but as someone who was raised on pasties, that is not a pasty.

    I am sure it a tasty meat pie, but no rutabaga no pasty.

    LOL! You ever try to prep rutabaga for a pasty (or anything else?)? Them suckers are a pain to chop! :grinning:

    I don't prep em I just eat em!!!!

    I don't even know what a rutabaga looks like, I just know they taste like my childhood when I bite into a traditional pasty

    I wonder if he packed some Kalakukko with him :stuck_out_tongue: (which is quite good despite the seemingly odd combination of fish and pork used in the ones I've had).

    According to Michigan history the Finns adopted the Cornish Pasty when they reached the Upper Penisula because it was like their food.

    Thanks to the Brits and the Finns Pasties are extremely traditional in Michigan.

    The last beer fest I poured at had a Pasty truck. Great drinking food.

    A rutabaga is a large, waxed turnip.
    I agree that it is not a true pasty without it!
    I worked in an English Tea Room for a time here in NJ, owned by a family originally from Chichester...they made the pasties with lamb. The ones with beef in them were called "tiddie oggies".
    Every once in a while, I'll whip up a batch of both!!

    I remember this one, shot at the Mitten Brewery in Grand Rapids. Go to 1:30, where they start to talk about what makes a good one.

    ^^^This. Mrs. Bear's family are Copper Country Finns, and when we are up there in God's Country if we aren't having a few pasties hot out of the oven, we'll grab some to go for a roadside lunch. Hot pasties, cold bear, and the view of Lake Superior from Esrey Park-priceless.

    Didn't realise you could get Cornish pasties in America. Here in the UK the ONLY place to eat them is in Cornwall. I have never tasted any, even in neighboring Devon, that tastes as good as the ones made in Cornwall. They have to be made in the morning and eaten the same day. Even the name is protected here meaning any pastie made outside of Cornwall is just called a pastie or meat pastie.

    Jim Harrison often mentions the pasty in his novels, often set in the UP of Michigan. His gorgeous writing made we want to eat them on the spot. Definitely sounds to be good with beer!

    I would like a Cornish Cornish Pasty Oatmeal Stout now with a Cornish Pasty (tm). I'm hoping to be there late this Summer. Love it!

    Hope you enjoy Cornwall, a great and unique place. They don't consider themselves English only Cornish.

    Well, that sure sounds familiar around here. Anyway, I've been, but in 1970. I expect Cornwall to have changed, but hopefully not too much!
