There is really no value to quibbling over terms like "kicked out." Your chart shows very clearly Sam Adams is #2 in size among all 4,000 craft brewers. It is BIG. Out of 114 releases, NONE OF THEM have an average BA rating above 4.5. For whatever reason, Sam Adams went with a bottler with dangerous safety standards, as did Corona. I have no objections to successful craft brewers expanding, as they must. Doing so, however, quite logically may very well present them with the same quality- and safety- control issues that plague Big Beer.

I had to pull a few cases on Friday to send back to the distributor. The only bad part is we don't even know how many cases with the particular codes were sold.

Also, since it's voluntary, most places will keep their affected cases so they don't run out of product to sell too.

Just another reason to drink from cans. Glass has no nutritional value; Metal has minerals.

I don't want to get into rights, Brewers ECT conversation. The last time this happened to constellation AB was launching montejo beer in the us. This week when the whole recall happened again AB released Estrella beer. I work in the industry and this is pretty much fact. Ab will do anything to have a successful beer in the us that they have a 100% rights to.

Well actually the white box at the far right of the video is called a Heuft, that rejects the defects at 1400 bottles a minute.

I didn't suggest that bottles are not checked mechanically/electronically - I was responding to someone who asked why they didn't undergo "...visual inspection...".

Boston Beer Co's recalled bottles were brewed and bottled in-house, they did not use an outside "bottler". Their recalled bottles were manufactured by Owens-Illinois - the largest glass container manufacturer in the world, and one of, if not the major bottle supplier to the US "craft" industry. One can find the O-I symbol embossed on many major "craft" brewers' bottles - Yuengling, Gambrinus, Sierra Nevada, New Belgium.

From all indications, both the earlier BBC recall and the two recent Corona/Constellation incidences were found by the sophisticated quality control methods these companies employ. It can be assumed that these defective bottles would not have been found if the bottles had been used by a small "microbrewery" that lacks such equipment.

For what it's worth, ABI's Carlos Brito disagrees (via a letter reprinted in a rare "free" Beer Busines Daily entry):
Brito is responding to an earlier BBD post - The Corona Bottle Recall: Is ABI Insane or Just Negligent? :grimacing:

    What is "ECT"?

For a second there I thought Corona had released a beer to help enhance memory.

So to be clear, this recall does not effect the Coronas I have cellared?

My unending search for humor sometimes got me in trouble in school. I had trouble with the Civil War, but Macbeth was easy pickins'.
