Hello. Is anybody familiar with the Dakota Brewing Company shown on this bottle cap and/or know where it's located? I ask because I have been searching for nearly 10 years for a bottle cap from South Dakota for a beer cap map I've got (it's the only state I haven't been able to acquire a beer cap for of all the 50 states--you can see an image of my map at the end of this post). I came across the above bottle cap on eBay selling for a few dollars, so I ordered it thinking there should at least be a 50-50 chance it's from South Dakota, but I haven't been able to find much of any information about the brewery online. The bottle cap appears relatively recently produced, based on its appearance. I've found info about 3 seemingly different Dakota Brewing Companies so far, as detailed below: 1. There appears to have been a Dakota Brewing Company which produced something called Roughrider Premium Beer in the 1990s-2000s. I believe this is the brewery my beer cap is affiliated with, as an image on a can shown in the first of these two links below mentioning Dakota Brewing Company's Roughrider Premium Beer looks similar to the image on my beer cap: https://www.angelfire.com/wi/beercans/mastero.html https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/892/18574/ Of those two links, the first says it was "brewed and bottled by the Dakota Brewing Company under special arrangements with the Joseph Huber Brewing Company in Monroe, WI", and the latter implies that it was produced by Cold Spring Brewing Co. in Cold Spring, MN, so neither one in the Dakotas, though both specifically list the beer as being affiliated with the Dakota Brewing Company rather than the brewery where it was seemingly produced. Was this Dakota Brewing Company an actual entity? If so, where was it based? 2. There was also a Dakota Brewing Company based in Huron, SD in 1934-1942 which produced Schooner Beer among others, according to these links: https://history.sd.gov/archives/exhibits/BREWERIES OF SOUTH DAKOTA 1862.pdf https://www.sdhspress.com/journal/s...south-dakota-brewing-history/4204_stewart.pdf According to the latter link, the building where that brewery was located burned down in 1959. I do not believe my beer cap is old enough to be connected to this brewery, though perhaps it is connected to an incarnation of it. 3. There was also a Dakota Malting and Brewing Company based in Bismarck, ND in 1961-1965 which produced Dakota Beer, according to these links: http://www.oldbreweries.com/breweri...d-7-breweries/dakota-malting-brewing-co-nd-1/ https://www.bismarckcafe.com/blogs/wiki/dakota-beer-brewery Again, I do not believe my beer cap is old enough to be from any production from this brewery, though perhaps it is somehow more recently affiliated. Incidentally, the beer cap I collected from North Dakota for my beer cap map below is from this Dakota Beer, as I couldn't find any more recent ND beers which came with a beer cap. --- Anyway, sorry to go on and on about it, but I've been searching in vain for a South Dakota beer cap for years as the last piece of the puzzle so to speak needed for my beer cap map, so I'm hanging onto hope that this cap might somehow be South Dakota linked. Otherwise, it seems the only beer caps I've found to have come out of South Dakota are from the Black Hills Brewery of Central City, SD of 1878-1917, which occasionally pop up on eBay for a pretty penny (as seen in this sample eBay post here), and perhaps also from the Dakota Brewing Company listed in #2 above (which I just discovered). Anyway, any insight anyone might have would be much appreciated! Thank you! -- P.S. For reference, here is my beer cap map as it currently stands (and has stood for about 8 years). I currently have a sticker from Crow Peak Brewing Company of Spearfish, SD taped behind the hole for South Dakota (there are 50 holes on the map, though most of the holes are not in the locations of the actual states due to limited space in the New England states pushing all the rest of the holes westward). P.P.S. Also for reference, here is a link I posted about my search for a South Dakota beer cap 8 years ago: https://www.beeradvocate.com/commun...virginia-north-dakota-or-south-dakota.542185/ Cheers!
Well, I got a tip from somebody in another forum, and I think it's this Dakota Brewing Company listed as having opened in Grand Forks, ND in 1990 as shown at this link here: https://beerme.com/brewery.php?1466. Also, there are several images of the same cap mentioning Grand Forks, ND which can be found searching through the listings for the letter D here: https://www.bottlecaps.de/index/. So, it would seem it's a cap from a Dakota Brewing Company from Grand Forks, ND. Alas, it's not a South Dakota beer cap as I had hoped, but at least my question has been answered and my curiosity satisfied. Thanks to all, and cheers!
