I was lucky enough to get some de garde bottles however I'm not familiar with a couple of them and maybe someone could give me more info on them. More info on the beer and more info on how limited they are. Going to some bottle shares that are having some very limited things and want to see if these could stack up.

    Thank you in advance.

    The bottles I got are
    3s
    Saison desay in Chardonnay barrels
Saison desay in Pinot noir barrels

3S is a private commission, about 150 bottles produced, and very limited since you needed to know the guy who had it made last year or catch one of the few bottles sold at the brewery for onsite consumption only.

The two Desays you have are ~400 each and a collaboration between De Garde and Side Project. They don't seem to be in as much demand, not sure why. I suspect that may change when Side Project releases their half of the collab.

    Rarity: 3S>>>>>>>>>>>>SD (Chardonnay) >SD (Pinot)

Taste: SD (Chardonnay) >>SD (Pinot) >>>>>3S

If you're showing up to a share with anyone in the know about dG, you'll probably make some panties drop with the 3S. Take that :grinning:

I really like De Garde, but the fervor and hoarding going on with their beers does not make sense to me.

The number of out of state reviews/hads don't support your statement. De Garde only sells bottles at their tasting room in BFE and have never had a release over 1,000 bottles. Most of the early releases were in the 200-400 range. If we're hoarding all the bottles, why the national attention? Its because the Portland traders (mostly) are sending so many bottles out of state.

    I think this is accurate.

You know how it is when you're trading. Generally you have to give value to get value. Frankly I can't think of anything made in the US that won't at least pique the interest of a potential trader, if I tell them I have some de Garde to offer in exchange. The demand and interest is that high.

I don't trade all that much, but when I do, the number one asked for beer is pretty much anything made by de Garde. It's one of the reasons I'm always on the look out to score some, even though most of their beers are way to sour for my taste.

this is what I was talking about. on trading forums, out of state BAs are always hunting down de Garde. Like I said, I enjoy most all of their beers, but I am at a loss why they are so coveted

Oh, also, the NW is way more helpful and much less ball breaking than the south Atlantic. Thank you again!

If I didnt have access to Oregon Beer? Block 15, Upright, Ale Apoth, logsdon, and de Garde would be in there but I would never trade anything crazy for it. That said, sour/barrel aged/fruit beer is a pretty popular style these days. And the fact that it is so limited probably gives it even more status.

Are there breweries outside of Oregon you would trade crazy things for? I think some traders have different mentalities. They gotta keep ticking those low bottle count releases.

In that case, how do you feel about out-of-state BA's trading de Garde? A casual search of the trading forum shows recent de Garde offers coming from Arizona, California, Indiana, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York...

It does surprise me how much interest there is in De Garde RELATIVE to the ho-hum interest in Block 15, Upright, And Ale Apothecary. I absolutely love De Garde, but Upright might be my favorite brewery in Oregon. The culinary angle they take just connects with me. Block 15 is probably the broadest in their abilities to produce world class beers ... from Imperial Stouts to IPAs to wilds / sours. And Ale Apothecary is probably the most single minded and focused, with the greatest capacity for wild genius.

So, to me, the only odd thing is the focus solely on De Garde. And, more so, the focus on the berliners. They're great; I love them (though, of course, some more than others). But it shocks me when I see ISO posts for the last big release that ask for "any Bu" with no interest in Poppy van Ambre, Connak Ambre, or Unblended Connak. What? Do we need fruit in everything? We can't appreciate non-fruited wilds anymore? I had to talk a friend of mine into taking a Fleur Desay instead of a Bu. Needless to say, I think he was happy I did. Particularly strange in that the beers that have risen to the top of the ratings over time - The Lily, Archer, etc - are usually not the fruited berliners.

    Oh well; more for me.
