Any help with the DFW area? I'll be in Grapevine September 6-10 for a conference. I've went through a few threads I had found and tried to collect some locations people had mentioned. Any thoughts on them or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like I might have a rental car so I can get around the area a bit. But at the same time gong to be busy with the conference so if I can lock in a stop of two in a similar area and get a good selection that'd be good. Probably really only going to have that first evening after I get in and maybe the next afternoon to search around for stuff.

Really would like to bring some (or a lot) Yellow Rose back. If you know somewhere that usually has it, or a good price, would love to know to lock that down. Would take any suggestions of other regional stand outs that are a must have. I usually drink DIPAs and big stouts, bit open to anything you love. I plan on filling one suitcase for sure (although that 45lbs might disappear fast). Always hard to know if something is out now or not.

    Beer:
    Yellow Rose
    Cedar Creek Dankasauras
    Deep Ellum IPA
Karbach BB Hellfighter (say posts from late june, guessing it is gone, would love regular or variants)
    Community BA Legion
    Lakewood Temptress
St. Arnold's Bishop Barrel (an of these around?)

    Locations:
Total Wine - Is any one of them better than the other? Best one, worst one?
Whole Foods - Same questions, any that are better or worse for selection?
Hall's - not far from Grapevine at all so I will stop in.
    Kool Keg ?
    Lone Star Beverages ?

Don't know if i'll have time to stop at an actually brewery unless it is near a good place to buy beer and not super out of the way.

sidenote: my flight gets in around 4. How screwed am I going to be around the city for rush hour? Just a small idea of how bad it gets would be so helpful.

I'll probably put some trade posts up too if there are any amazing regional beers that have come ad gone based on people's suggestions, and bring some Michigan stuff down.

I would also seek out Community Mosaic IPA (basically, a DIPA at 8.6% ABV - https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30949/97319/), as well as any of the 4pk cans from Martin House...by then, their Big Hoppa NE-Style 12% DIPA should be out. Looking forward to what you may put on the trade boards. Cheers!

Yellow Rose will be difficult to find in DFW in a bottle, check out Tap Hunter and you can find it on tap somewhere. I recommend you peruse thru some of the other threads about where to buy beer and see if any of them are close to the airport and make that your first stop. And yes, traffic will suck big time around 5. Tap Hunter is your friend if you are looking for specific beers to try. @JJFoodie was right when he mentioned Community Mosaic IPA, it is great IPA and different taste profile than Yellow Rose, also love the one that was aged on oak spirals. BA Legion always seems to be available somewhere, checking specsonline.com there are a couple of stores that have it, one between Ft Worth and Dallas and the other below Ft Worth. Have fun

    Thanks everyone so far.

I had sent a message to Lone Pint about bottles of Yellow Rose and they had suggested Whole Foods and HEBs. Although Whole foods has a ton of locations and not something that I can easily check stock on etc. I'll search it out on draft but really want to bring some back.

I'll put community Mosaic on the list.

I was hoping to fly in earlier, but the flights from Michigan were a pain. I lucked out with a direct flight that didn't leave at 6am or get in at 10pm, so i took what I could get... so i'll just deal with traffic. If i can just get towards somewhere that has a few stops, i can kill time until traffic dies down a bit.

Does anyone know if Taps and Caps has a crowler machine? Don't want to deal with checking glass howlers and growlers. But a few Crowlers would kill it. One of their locations has yellow rose on tap (albeit low right now) and that'd work as well.

No crowlers unless it is a brewery, so no at T&C. Let's just say our alcohol & beverage commission in Texas is "antiquated". You also won't be able to buy any beer to go from a brewery unless it is licensed as a "brewpub". Again, thanks TABC.

If you're in Grapevine, hands down you need to check out Whip In #117 in Flower Mound. It's an unassuming gas station, but it is filled with craft goodies. They should have everything you're looking for and then some.

It is not far from Grapevine ~10 mins, and open until 11pm.

Not sure if you're flying in to Love Field or DFW airport, but if it is DFW airport, Grapevine isn't far. You will likely hit some traffic on 121, but it won't be too bad.

If it is Love Field - you have a bit longer of a drive and will likely run into some congestion depending on what route you choose. GPS should put you on 183 > 114 > 121.

Thanks, I added Whip In to my map.

I am flying into DFW, but had planned to pretty much get my car and drive to beer places that evening. I was kind of aiming for the Carrolton / Lewisville area to hit then since there seemed to be a few places to stop around there. Although I could just do places closer to Grapevine that night and then do others the next afternoon. I just get slammed at these conferences and want to make sure I get the important stuff in... beer.

I like to shop early if I can, get the must haves locked in, pick up a bunch other locals, drink them in my room throughout the conference, and pickup any standout extras to take back.

Oh and although this isn't barbecue advocate, don't be afraid to throw out any places you love ... I am a carnivore

BBQ - Pecan Lodge in Deep Ellum, but if you want something closer to where you are staying, Meat U Anywhere BBQ in Grapevine has some great 'cue (get the brisket or a beef rib).

Flower Mound Whip In will also have some Jester King offerings, if you're looking to haul back.

I had located the Meat U place a couple days ago. seemed like the only complaint was parking. Can't wait to get some good bbq.

I might end up having to ship a box back to myself, or at least dedicate a second bag to beer

    That was me

Got approval for my rental car so I will be coming up there for sure.

Lone Pint distro seems to be nearing critical mass. Was in DFW earlier this week. YR and 667 (DIPA) both available at Central Market (HEB) Plano. I did not make it to the mid-cities, so can't speak for the Southlake location which would be closer to the Gaylord. AND @lonestarbev had it last time I was in there. I would think you will be able to find this, no prob.

caveat emptor on the YR bottles

I know some people do not like the place. But if you are staying in Grapevine, there is a restaurant/bar/music venue called Tolberts in 'downtown'. Their chili is very good and they usually have a good assortment of cold IPA's. Not sure they post the list anywhere online though. Use this place if you need something quick and close and go with low expectations. I have been pleasantly surprised with things like BCBS.

In the Grapevine area there are a few places I would recommend. Tolberts is one of the closer options to the hotels and has a decent selection as well as reasonable prices. Drunken Donkey in Lewisville typically has some Bishops Barrel bottles along with some other rarities though is probably the most expensive of options. I also very much like Lonestar Taps & Caps as well as The Ginger Man in Southlake.

As far as barbecue close to the hotel I would also have to recommend Meat U Anywhere. The parking lot can be challenging at times but if you didn't want to deal with it it would be a cheap uber trip.

If you go to Drunken Donkey, make it clear to your waitress right off that you don't want to buy any of their t-shirts or other merch (unless you do) or she will hound you all night about it. They also run some BS contests between the waitresses that cause them to badger you to buy ridiculously expensive drinks.
