DFW brewery and beer ratings.

I agree for the most part. The only two things that stand out to me is that Community is way too low. They should rank much closer to 4.5. That and Temptress is highly overrated IMPO.

 

I'm surprised Grapevine is ranked so low. The beers I've tried from them have been flawless.

 

Armadillo is way too high for me. I strongly disliked Brunch Money and I haven't liked anything else. I would also move Martin House and Revolver up. But overall, the list seems about right.

 

There isn't a ton of separation between the top and bottom breweries (3.74 vs 3.55) which is interesting. I'd have guessed the bottom one would be significantly lower than the top one.

I would have guessed the top 3 would be Community, Lakewood and Armadillo. Interesting there are no IPAs/APAs in the top 10

 

How/why would you expect Armadillo to be so high? That shocked me, I wouldn't put them close to the top 5. I think anyone can argue Lakewood, Peticolas, or Community being the top three in any order, but I don't get Armadillo.

 

Will differ with almost every person. That is what's cool about opinions. I've enjoyed most of Amarillo Ale Works offerings. My top 2 for sure are:

Community
Peticolas

 

DFW seems to be more of a stout town. We like our IPAs, but not like Austin or Houston.

I can't believe Brunch Money rates higher than Quakertown Stout, though.

 

Interesting, but not shocking. I don't know if we have a local great IPA, it's actually where I think we are lacking.

Remember Armadillo only has 4 beers, 2 of them rated highly (Quakertown and Brunch) and don't have a larger regular mediocre lineup dragging them down.

Looks like I need to seek out Collective Brewing and the Shannon stout though.

What I'm most surprised with is how Franconia is ranked so high.

 

DFW makes the best IPA in TX. IMO and from the ones I've had...of course.

Since they don't make a ton of beers, people are predominantly rating the brewery based on Quakertown and Brunch Money, which are both highly rated.

 

Peticolas - Sit Down and Community Mosaic IPA are both really good.

 

Is your list of beers, just the highest rated offering from each brewer?

If not, you are missing quite a few options.

 

IMHO a great IPA is a regularly available IPA.

Edit: a great LOCAL IPA.....

My only question is how are this calculated? If I rate Velvet Hammer a 5, yet check it in 10 times a week, is that helping out the average be higher?

 

We just don't seem to have breweries here that have multiple great beers. I can see how Lakewood has the buzz to be the top but I don't love any of their beers. Some are very good though.

On the other hand, I agree with the posters that wish for a great local IPA. There is no Yellow Rose like star in DFW. Shocked to see Mosaic rated so highly. Tried it once and it was a rare drain pour for me. Guess I will give it another try since it would be nice to have something good that is very easy to find.
