Thinking in terms of limits is a mentally unhealthy way to approach alchohol. I've never done abv% math, never purposely capped my intake, or forced 'time off' into my drinking. Despite this, I never drink too much or too often. If my habits were such that I was thinkign in these terms, I would seriously look at my drinking.

I felt a lot better about being middle-aged the day I came home after a shitty day at work, felt like having a drink, and realized I could damn well have a drink if I felt like it.

I wouldn't waste a good beer on that though. A generous pour of Evan Williams in a rocks glass with ice will be just the ticket. Even before the first sip, the rattling of the cubes produces that Bukowskian relief of feeling the world no longer has you by the throat.

I try to keep it under 25% ABV in total, and I usually drink once, maybe twice Monday-Thursday. The weekends have no rules :grinning:

I don't. I don't even think about it. Haven't had an issue yet.

I usually have either no or 1 12 oz. If I have 2, it means I split them or didn't finish them. For whatever reason, my body usually says "enough!" after that.
Unless I'm at torst... then I usually have 3-4 small pours.

Like any answer on a question like this, it depends. When your working a real job, it matters how you function.
I just never over think drinking beer. It takes all the fun out of it. The key is not to hurt others. me sitting at home, drink none to 10, as long as I do not piss on the floor or whatever. things are fine. but your method works for you be happy.

in the long run 95%-99.9% of us will never meet so who cares? right?:rolling_eyes::rolling_eyes::grinning::grinning::grinning::stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue:

Not drinking too much or too often is essentially a limit, however ambiguous. Reifying it into "1-2 a weeknight" or via some personal ABV calculation is just a more objective way to express the same idea. I don't agree that it's indicative of an unhealthy relationship with beer, though I do agree it might be quirky or superfluous.

I generally count total ABV, and try not to get over 20% on any given night, weekday or weekend

I don't have to think about not drinking too much or too often. That's the point. It's not a limit, it's how I drink naturally. If you have to make rules, guidelines, or a conscious effort, I think it does indicate an issue.

Agreed. Some times a couple low ABV beers will hit me little harder than usual, so I stop. Conversely, I had a nice heavy meal last week, followed by a 6 Hopslams....

Lately, I've switch to generally not drinking during the week and holding off for the weekend. For rating anything new, I tend to limit myself to a slow pace and not necessarily a total quantity amount (i.e. one an hour/hour and a half or so). In doing so, that usually gets me to 4-5 for a day if I start early enough. Then there's drinking for consumption and effects from time to time, in which case it's no holds barred mode.

I'm the same way. I keep track if the beers are high abv so if they are 9 or 10 abv then two beers would be my limit or maybe 3 beers of lower abv and stay in the same 18-20 level. It doesn't make sense to just say x beers per night when you drink beers that have high to low abv's.
