Saw this on the shelf tonight, picked up a 12oz bottle for $5.99. The little tag on the shelf said it's a 21% beer but the label says 17.3%. Either way I'm curious about this brew. Didn't have time to drink it tonight.

There were 2 left on the shelf. I may go back tomorrow and buy them. Anyone have any feedback on this? It sounds good from what I've read.

I was a bit confused when I saw the change from 21.92%. DuClaw says this is the best one yet (but they have to say that, right?).
I even asked if there should be a new entry for it on here, but one of the Staff members disagreed and explained why, to my general agreement.

I had a bottle, but I gave it as part of a trade to @northstar23, so he might be able to tell you how it has changed. I really need to pick up another bottle, but it is $7.99 around here.

I would probably pick it up while you can, but who knows with DuClaw. They brewed it in 2006 and 2010/11, but this batch came out of nowhere and I never saw nary the announcement anywhere. It could be rotating more of it again (it has changed over to 12 oz., but that might also be to spread out a small batch over more bottles) or it could be years before another release. However, I will say that I relish the price changes. It has dropped below a $1 an ounce, which is nice. Those big bottles were great for sharing though, but a pain if you just wanted to have some yourself.

They brew Colossus every four years. http://www.duclaw.com/buildingthebeast/

I haven't had the 2014 bottle yet. I've been waiting till I picked up more but, I actually haven't seen it down in my area yet. Thanks again for the bottle @gillagorilla, I didn't know it was your only one.

It might be a variable alcohol % per batch similar to Dogfish world wide stout and 120 minute. I think those ABVs change every year.

Im planning on trying it. I've heard good things from people who've tried in recent years

I picked one up last weekend but haven't tried it yet. I've never heard of it so it was really out of curiosity. Hope it's good!

This is my father in laws favorite beer. When I saw it for $7 a bottle recently, I got a sixer of it to give him as a birthday gift next month. I paid upwards of $30 for this in prior years when it was in 22oz format. So, to see it at 50% the price I was expecting was a welcomed surprise.

Ive been fortunate to try this beer every year it was released. The original was in waxed 1-liter swingtop bottles which was fun to share and absolutely delicious. For coal region folks or those that know about it...it tastes like the beer version of something we call boilo.

Im not the biggest fan of DuClaw but this is my favorite offering by them. I dont care about the drop in alcohol % so long as it tastes at least similar to the past versions.

You're just so generous and I get nervous and feel I must beer-sate (beer compensation).
I would love to have tried the 2006 but that was way before my time. I really want to try some boilo.

I think it is my favorite, but I've had some other great ones recently. Hell on Wood is brilliant (Devil's Milk with a year on it, not so much). Guilty Filthy Soul is everything that Sweet Baby Jesus isn't and never will be (it is close to what I thought SWJ would taste like if it tasted good). Brimstone and Misery are quite good; as are Retribution and its variants (not so much the Pumpkin one though).

Can't wait to crack open a Repent with @Shroud0fdoom though.

Not a fan of the beer but the website is about the coolest I have seen for something from a brewery
