Anyone out there know of bottle shops out in the eastern half of PA that DON'T sell old beer. Getting pretty frustrated with finding it in every shop within 30 miles of me. Rant, rant, rant. Willing to drive a good distance for beers within their best by dates

Trenton Road Take Out is south eastern PA. Great selection. Not sure what typical beer prices are for PA, but TRT is a bit more expensive than NJ. He's always getting new stuff in, but I do not go there enough to really know if they have a problem with old beer.

I'm in Pottsville, 17901, but I get about a bit, so anywhere from York/ Lancaster east to NJ border I'd be willing to take a look at.

Hey Mike. Originally being from Pottsville myself it had always been a constant frustration for me trying to find anything even remotely good/fresh nearby. I know of one place in Horsham, PA called The Loft at Iron Abbey. It's a bit of a drive from Schuylkill County but you won't be disappointed with the overall selection and rotation maintained there.

    Hope this helps.

Edit/Addendum: There's also a place in Media, PA called Pinocchio's that has a (not quite as) large selection as The Loft at Iron Abbey.

I'll be in Newtown for a wedding in two weeks and am looking for bottle shops in the area. I see Cold Spring Beverages is only a few miles away, anything other suggestions are appreciated.

Just checking kjrod, there is a Newtown not far from me in Schuylkill County, but Cold Spring beverages is near the Newtown in Bucks County.

The wedding is at the Rose Bank Winery. The map shows it's outside of Trenton, north of Philly. Not sure if that makes the difference, I'm guessing it does.

Cold Spring isn't a "bottle shop" it is a (retail) distributor - so, "cases only" by law in PA.

When I'm in that general area, the two bottle shops I typically hit are Candlewyck in Buckingham and the aforementioned Trenton Rd. Take-out in Fallsington. Nearby the latter, in Langhorne is Philly Steaks Wings Beer, but I've yet to stop in.

If you're in Lancaster, check out Friendly Greek.

    Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for ther advice. The Weiss supermarket up on 61 now sells beer. Good selection of PA brews, and others. Mix-a-six area could use a bit more variety, but most brews are pretty fresh.

Yeah I've been there a few times for a mix 6 but their price for it is a flat rate ($10.99?), so any brew they offer for it must be at or below a certain threshold as to not lose money. For example, they couldn't have 90 Minute available because it would be an overall loss (or slim profit) if people just bought 6 of those "mixed" instead of a true 4 pack.

They're not concerned about stocking anything TOO crazy considering the area's general public mostly drinks Yuengling and BMC. Like you said, though, I'm glad they carry small PA craft like Susquehanna, as well as big guys Victory, Weyerbacher, and Troegs.

I'm gonna second this as I live just a few minutes away and know the managers. They rotate stock regularly and their prices are better than some other stores around the area.

Word to the wise. Trenton Road Takeout tends to have old beer on their shelves. The shelves across from the register are going to the the freshest as that's where they put new releases. Stuff on shelves behind that are mostly the year-round beers or beers that aren't selling, thus can be old. Which sometimes works in ones favor as I found bottles on Monster Ale laying around.

If you ever get up to the Scranton area check out Exit 190 Beer Deli. They have a solid selection and a pretty knowledgeable staff. There's a tasting room in the back with 20 beers on tap for samples and growler fills. Right off I-81 at exit 190 (ironic, right?) it's pretty easy to get to from anywhere in eastern PA

Capone's outside Norristown isn't too far from you. Always fresh but bottle shop only no cases.

any places in King of Prussia, or otherwise along 76 or 276, that regularly have Russian River bottles? I was looking at Kunda and King of Prussia Beer Outlet, seems like they have it at least occassionally?

I would think the Wegman's in KOP would have some.
