Hi ! this forum have been very helpful last summer for our Michigan and Chicago road trip so I think that could be the case again for our Vermont quick trip in march. We have school break here in Quebec first week of march ( March 3 to march 10) and we have thought about 3 nights in vermont (2 hours way from home). We will be with our 2 kids (7 and 10 years old) and we have think to stay in burlington. Burlington south seems to have many lodging options. And the price to pay for dragging the kids in microbrewery is to get a lodging with a pool, il could have been worse ! 1) Is there any day to avoid ? Our fist choice would be to arrive saturday (march 2) and leave tuesday (march 5). 2) We have think about going to the obvious Alchemist, Four Squares and Foam but are really open to any place that would be nice to go with kids, It could be for lunch, dinner or stop for a beer only. 3) Is it possible to buy Hill Farmstead beer in bottle or can in a shop somewhere around Burlington ? Thanks in advance !
I bet this thread will be helpful. Happy Beering!! https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/vermont-beerventure-help-please.579112/
You will find hillfarmstead on tap in the Burlington area but No bottles or cans in stores, only at the brewery. Burlington beer Company is kid friendly and the front part of building is indoor trampoline park so you can bribe the kids with that. Fiddlehead and Folinos pizza is also good for kids. You can grab growlers and cans and bring them into the pizza place next door
Unfortunately you wont find any Hill Farm to go outside of the brewery as far as I know. If you're going to Alchemist you need to stop in Waterbury. Blackpub Pub is my favorite bar in the country. They have a staggering beer list, its kid friendly, and their food is great. Ill write some more stuff when I have time!
Only place I’ve seen them in the last few years in bulk is at the general store in Greensboro Bend. I believe they always stock a selection of the wine bottle size Farmhouse beers. I think they also ship the Grassroots and La Vermontois collab bottles to select places. Unfortunately that doesn’t help anybody who’s looking to cut down on travel to get HF beers.
He's not kidding the Taplist at Blackback in waterbury will blow your mind. Plus the Craft Beer Cellar is right across the street.
Not exactly the brewery info you were looking for, but very close to Foam is the ECHO (Leahy Center for Lake Champlain) which might be something your kids would be into either before or after you get to enjoy some pours. Also, if they are into skating/biking/etc there is a skate park (A Dog) not to far from Foam along the bike path. Also, depending on the time of day The Archives in Burlington might be cool to visit for all of you...they get to play arcade games and you get to enjoy a solid draft list.
Hi and thanks (better late than never !) the archives only allows kids saturday and ssunday between noon and 5 pm. Since we will arrive sunday around noon maybe we will go there for an hour or two. We are looking to do (still have to decide which order) : -BBCO - American flatbread (for beer and food) - Leahy center - Bens and jerry tour - The Alchemist Any brewery/restaurant/pub/store that are not to miss ? We want to pack the car with good beer to bring back home (we have the right for 18 litres without taxes, so 36x 500 ml. cans)
Did this with my nieces a few years back. ECHO then to Foam. Great combo when kids are involved. And Skinny Pancake right in between is a good lunch option that has a good taplist.
If you are going to Alchemist/Ben and Jerry's you should stop in Waterbury. Craft Beer Cellar will have a bunch of great beer options to bring home and you can grab lunch at a bunch of great options that are kid friendly. My favorite for lunch would be Blackback, but Prohibition Pig, Resevoir, etc are good options too.
Good list. Flatbread does amazing brunch pizzas (and Bloody Mary's with complimentary beer back). Their 'regular pizzas' are awesome, but if you've ever wondered about an eggs Benedict pizza, this is your chance. Echo has an Animatronic dinosaur exhibit through May. Our 8 year old loved it. Maglianero is a quick walk around the corner and does the best coffee in town if you're into that. The Alchemist is a quick visit. You can easily pair it with lunch at The Bench or Doc Ponds, both have extensive beer lists.
