Buffalo Sweat by Tallgrass is worth a try. It's a smidge thinner than VM, but a nice flavor.

Nope. I enjoy how the Flaked Oats provides a smooth/silky mouthfeel. Plus it is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber!

    Cheers!

Yes, I have had Sly Fox Oatmeal Stout at the Sly Fox Brewpub. It is a very good beer! Just a notch below "damn tasty" though.

    Cheers!

Haven't seen Ninkasi Oatis or Ninkasi Vanilla Oatis mentioned yet, both of which I enjoy. Not sure where they distribute, though.

I'll 7th or 8th (lost count) Sam Smith's oatmeal stout - its the best to my taste.
Also always enjoy FW Velvet Merlin.

I dig that Samuel Smith's Oatmeal stout as well.
Not a huge fan of Oatmeal stouts but that's where I'm going if I want one.
    Cheers!

I still miss that stuff. My buddy and I used to get cases all the time in the 90s.

Shoot. That would have been a nice experiment for a side-by-side.

If it wasn't for coffee, I'm guessing IPAs would be the number one source of oats for BeerAdvocate users.

My wife would not accept me making a Oatmeal Stout without oatmeal.

Maybe somebody else could run this 'experiment'?

    Cheers!

Agreed, but maybe think twice about the barrel aged version. Not very good (IMO)...really thin and watery and it minimizes the high points of the original.

A 6pk of Fremont Dark Star is pretty perfect for this, but Ninkasi Oatis and Vanilla Oatis are also solid and widely distributed in the NW.

If it counts, Founders Breakfast Stout. Yes, it also has coffee and chocolate, but the oats are very noticeable. I can pick out the smell and taste of the oats right away.
