RIP Wolaver's Oatmeal Stout. That and their Coffee Porter saw me through many winters. It's successor, Otter Creek's Couch Surfer is a nice beer. I also dig Folk Metal by Burlington Beer Co.

Pot & Kettle by Trillium. Technically a porter but don't worry about it.

We have extremely similar tastes. I have never had the Modern Times though.

Based on your avatar, I would assume we do in fact have very similar taste :grinning:! And with the Modern Times, at the rate they're growing / expanding, it's only a matter of time before you do . Cheers to your good taste!

Trillium's Pot & Kettle. I know it's technically a porter, but still amazed that a brewery more well-known for their hop usage can make such a smooth, kick-ass oatmeal porter.

Funny you mention that beer. It's one of the first beers I had that I absolutely loved.

I like Buffalo Sweat from Tallgrass. It used to be one of my go-to stouts for the hot weather months, and my go-to extra in trades.

Totally forgot the hoppin frog stouts were oatmeal stouts. They are definitely great beers.

My top 3 here are easy:

Ipswich Oatmeal Stout (so thankful to have this available year-round at a cheap price)
Otter Creek Couch Surfer (quietly pretty great)
Samuel Smith Oatmeal (the classic benchmark)

I'm someone who considers imperial strength beers a different category from non-imperial

Yeah, two different things - "Oatmeal Stouts" and stouts that happen to have oats as a portion of the grist.

more than one beer can be topnotch and FBS isn't considered an oatmeal stout at least by this website

Founders calls it an Oatmeal Stout and that's what matters right?! Might as well add it to your list either way! :stuck_out_tongue:

My go to favorite oatmeal stout is Wigslpitter by 3 Floyds. It’s so good fresh with a ton of coffee.

I have to add Firestone Walker-VM. I have been drinking it past few days and really has grown on me more and more. Just an excellent beer.

I guess Founders Breakfast Stout technically counts, right? :grinning:

But, like @JackHorzempa mentioned, I think imperial stouts brewed with oatmeal are kind of their own thing, leaning far closer to the former than the latter (that is: they're really imperial stouts, moreso than oatmeal stouts).

So, for a more reasonable ABV oatmeal stout, I second @Hoos78 and his recommendation of The Poet. Very drinkable and tasty oatmeal stout.
