Foreign craft brews are always a pleasure to drink, in my opinion, because they're almost always something I haven't tried before. However, when I think of foreign styles that I really enjoy, a hop-bomb IPA or Pale Ale definitely doesn't come to mind as readily as a Saison, Belgian, Porter, Pilsner, etc.

I just got back from a trip to the UK and was fortunate enough to stumble upon bottles from The Kernel in London on my first day. These guys are brewing hop-forward IPAs, Pales, and table beers (stouts and porters as well) that rival the best brewed here in the states. They're all unfiltered and bottle conditioned, and are comparable to Vermont Style IPAs in juiciness and hop presence. I'd actually say they could kick the shit out of most American IPAs. I ended up trying ten different Kernel brews by the end of the trip and wasn't disappointed with a single one.

I'll get to the point. Do you guys have any foreign breweries that are producing IPAs geared more toward the American style that come to mind? Certain foreign brews that could compete with a Pliny, an Abner, or some Congress Street?

Insurgente in Tijuana makes a great IPA called La Lupulosa. I've heard of other great stuff on that side of the border as well.

The Jarl was a nice bitter, hoppy. They also make a malty beer named Maverick, which ingussed was much higher ABV than the 4.5%.

We are all aware the IPA is not a uniquely American style - nor did it originate there - right?

    ...Right?

As far as Quebec goes Le Castor Yakima, DDC Moralité, and a few that Dunham makes are definitely up there. Many others are disturbingly far off, though.:flushed:

Correct. I am just saying that In my opinion, the best IPAs are brewed in America. I prefer an American to an English IPA (in terms of style), so I may be biased... but I don't think I am.

Had this at Eataly in Chicago and found it quite solid. Not, however, on par with any of the IPAs the OP mentioned.

I've had ReAle at Eataly a few times here in Manhattan, and although it is a solid brew, it's not on the same level I was thinking of. I agree with @Tsar_Riga.
